Claudia must be watching Steffie play hockey ...
"Guitar Four Hands"?
Cheers
Posted by: J.M. Heinrichs on October 4, 2008 09:07 PMClair de Lune is a shimmering piano piece. Very difficult to interpret. I've been disappointed by many good pianists who didn't succeed in rendering its poetic sadness. Claude Debussy is an impressionist. It's all about atmospheric images.
Didn't think it could be done on the guitar. I'm amazed. I've listened many times now, first watching both guitarists carefully to see which part each one was playing, then with the sheet music to make sure that it was faithful to Debussy. Then I closed my eyes and let the music enchant me.
John Williams and Julian Bream are great artists.
I'm having a wonderful time, Denny. Thank you. Now I'm going to try again to play Clair de Lune half decently. It's not that hard to read but I've never played it as I would wish. I might learn something from your guitarists.
Ahhhhh, now THERE's the Claudia that I'm in harmony with!
EXCELLENT review & comment!
I've managed to figure out how to 'loop' it so that it plays without my intervention; I can now sit back and simply-appreciate how wonderful it is.
That Denny is one "sum-gun-sumnabitch" in what he provides here!
Posted by: DanS. on October 5, 2008 12:54 AMHave to agree with DanS on this one. Claudia you're many comments on the classical have given me a path to a greater understanding. Thank you........
Posted by: B....... on October 5, 2008 06:34 AMNow wait just one minute. How come Denny isn't sending B..... off to talk to HIS middle school teacher about your and you're? This isn't fair. I'm starting to think you guys don't like me.
Posted by: harhar on October 5, 2008 11:41 AMLovely -- Thanks, Denny!
Posted by: Marianne on October 5, 2008 02:47 PMHa Ha harhar........You got me on that one.
Back in the late fifties my grandmother’s favorite saying was "Don’t Drink And Blog". Us kids always thought she was as nutty as her fruitcakes. Turns out she was wise beyond her time.

I didn't notice your spelling, only the lovely thought you expressed about me. Thank you with all my heart.

Instead of correcting B.....'s spelling, you should have learned from him how to be nice to people. You've been very nasty to me, on other threads, with no provocation whatsoever. If you would stop annoying us, we would like you better.
Here you go, J.M.
Years ago one of my guitar teachers had a duo with a female guitarist. She was pretty small and he was a fairly big dude, and they used to perform with her sitting on his lap and them playing a single guitar. Now, THAT's the way to do it, but with two dudes, it might be, ah, creepy.

The Mozart performance is a bit tricky. I'm not too sure I like the gymnastic. I'm a bit of a dilettante snob...Could it be done at the piano? Ah! well, Victor Borge played well while making us laugh...
Was the female guitarist, playing a duo with the teacher, on a single guitar, while sitting on his lap, a redhead? Just curious...
Posted by: Claudia on October 6, 2008 12:27 AMThank you, Denny.
In listening to Julian and John over the years, I never cease to be amazed at their abilities as individual artists. I've always been in awe of their talent as a duo. This performance is no exception.
Anyone besides me remember when the critics used to sneer at these gents back in the seventies?
Posted by: Oldbones on October 6, 2008 06:04 AMMy favorite John Williams' video on Youtube is Asturias. His dexterity and perfection on the guitar is wonderful.
