I watched Missouri annihilate Nebraska last night 52 to 17. It was 52 to 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter when Mizzou pulled their starters. I remember the Tom Osborne era when Nebraska would run up the score. They would keep their starters in most of the game to humiliate the other team. Mizzou figgered 52 points was enough to win. Revenge is sweet. TDHO is prolly crying about the game.
Posted by denny at October 5, 2008 06:40 PMAw, Jeez, Denny! My dad was a big Huskers fan back when. We were living in Nebraska at the time, and both parents had attended University of Nebraska. He liked Devaney, but Tom Osborne achieved near-deity status at our house. The only other figure that I think he held in such reverence was Alabama's Bear Bryant.
The Nebraska/Oklahoma game always brought everything to a complete standstill. I never did really follow football, being more partial to baseball myself. But we always had good snacks in the house during football season. Mom did draw the line at the "Go Big Red" toilet seat Dad wanted to buy, though, so we weren't completely overboard about it. ;)
Posted by: PeggyU on October 5, 2008 07:23 PMI watched the entire game. I was kind of pissed when Pinkle pulled the starters and put in the scrubs after the 3rd quarter. After years of watching Nebraska run up the score with all the 1st string players in until the very end, part of me really wanted Mizzou to continue to embarrass the hell out of them. However, no point in letting your starters get hurt in a meaningless quarter. Wait a minute, Nebraska kept them in until the very end! They even threw for the endzone and scored on the last play when Mizzou apparently thought Nebraska was going to be content to run out the clock. Some programs never change. Classless to the very end.
Posted by: Steve. S. on October 5, 2008 08:03 PMBig 12 is strong at the top this year. I get to go to the Texas O-Who game next week. Can't wait. Hookem. It should be a war.
You should be really happy about Mizzou. Their qb grew up around here. He has been in that spread system since 7th grade. Bad week for Huskers. That beating and Lawrence Phillips going bye bye for 5 to 10
Posted by: patrick on October 5, 2008 08:05 PMUmmm bieng a CU Buffs fan I enjoy when the BIG N gets there ass kicked.
Do you know what the "N" stands for on the Nebraska Helmets?
nowldge!

Posted by: Denny on October 5, 2008 09:14 PMPeggyU:
"Nebraska/Oklahoma"
NOTHING said College Football like "Nebraska/Oklahoma" said during the early part of the 1970's!
I was stationed at Elkhorn NE as part of the 1st Aerospace Communications Squadron then, -and I recall quite vividly how the entire State of Nebraska would come to a complete standstill on GameDay Saturday's.
I brought the vast majority of my "Big Red" memorabilia with me to my next duty-station @ Clark Air Base in the Phillipines and had it posted all over the place; What amazed me then was just how much & how many times I heard variations of the phrase:
"Nebraska?"
I'm a confident-backer of OU, but I sure did love Fall in Nebraska once.
Thanks for the memory!
Posted by: DanS. on October 5, 2008 09:35 PMThey take the game so seriously that they make some crazy (read foolish) bets on it. Ever ask why Nebraska has a sooner schooner on all their state road signs? Ever look at their state quarter? It has that pesky schooner as well. And all because they tried a west coast offence. Now the Okies are playing it smart and only betting steak dinners, so Kansans have to look at schooners whether they go north or south.
While Nebraskans take their football more seroiusly then religion, medicine, work and politics, They have some of the greatest fans on planet earth. I have yet to have garbage dumped on my vehicle, or a paint job keyed on Nebraska game day (even when we were winning). Coloradicals on the other hand, are not so good.
The mildcats had a great weekend. They held Tech to just under a hundred unanswered points. heck, at times we even thought they had players on the field participating.
Yea it was easy back in the 70's for Neb. and Oak. you had 130 scholarship players on the roster. If I had been Missouri's AD I would have told the coach run it up its pay back time.
Posted by: Spanky on October 5, 2008 11:41 PMCannot go...darn it anyway.
And yes Nebraskans do take football pretty seriously.
What we have in Nebraska?
cold Winters
Corn
Wheat
good people...
and taking football serious, frankly it is all we got. One day a week to let ou hair down..
The fans are loyal, and nice.
I will agree that Colorado fans, aren't always so nice, charter buses have been tipped over, damaged, fans beaten up...
Whenever we have folks here as guests, we do our best to try and make them feel at home.
Heck we are not a vacation mecca, we like folks coming in for a visit...
And Tom Osborne is classier than you are giving him credit for...
*I cannot attend Erics, between DH's schedule, the Collective..
Posted by: awtm on October 5, 2008 11:49 PMThey have comercials on now with Tom Osborne and Bill Snyder promoting a mentorship program for kids. Its a competition to see who gets the most to sign up. Winner to be announced at the K-State Nebraska game.
Two great coaches and a great idea.
Payback's a biach, ain't it ?!? (grin)-Unca Sandy
Posted by: Sandy G on October 6, 2008 01:17 PMGotta say that was sweet! Go Mizzou!! Seriously, why would Missouri risk their best players just because Nebraska is down. If they used the Cornhusker Gambit, they would be sinking to Nebraska's level, and Missouri's just a little too classy for that. Anyway, they've gotta save their best players for the next two weeks. Two undefeated teams to beat. But for now... Woo Hoo!
Posted by: Denise on October 7, 2008 09:21 AMGawd your an ass. My son was at that game and is now going to put his season tickets up for sale on EBay. Revenge is sweet, very funny. I think that your team just got lucky. Or maybe not. Eitherway you still suck :) Jerk.
Posted by: Teresa on October 8, 2008 12:13 AMTDHO - 52-10 by the third quarter and Mizzou got lucky? Geez! Your comments get dumber and dumber. Had Mizzou left their starters in, this "lucky" team would have scored three more touchdowns. Live with it TDHO. Nebraska has a rotten team.
Posted by: Denny on October 8, 2008 09:04 AMyou know what you see when you see when you search for chase daniel on youtube it is quite disgusting
