I guess after the rat bastard commies have bailed out the auto industry (which the gummint and unions did a pretty good job of destroying) the steel industry, which they're in the process of destroying, will be next in the bailout queue. It's amazing that rat bastard commies don't seem to realize that making it more expensive to do business, destroys jobs. I wonder how high unemployment will be during the Obamessiah's reign?
As an aside, isn't it amazing how fucked up blue states are, yet they keep electing the bonerheads who have fucked them up.
New Jersey: High taxes and corruption.
New York: Upstate is a disaster and the state is running a huge budget deficit.
California: Another huge budget deficit. Yeah Ah-nold is a Republican. He's about as Republican as McRINO.
Michigan: Has been in a recession for years and the Dims' solution was raising taxes. No wonder businesses are fleeing and the auto industry is collapsing. Wait until cap and trade.
But I digress.
My cousin Steve sent me this article.
President-Elect Barack Obama's reported plan to implement a cap-and-trade policy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions could make the integrated steel industry noncompetitive, according to a noted steel analyst.Charles Bradford, president of New York-based Bradford Research Inc./Soleil Securities, said a cap-and-trade policy could put Northwest Indiana's large steelmakers out of business because of its high cost.
Hey all you bonerheads in Indiana and Pennsylvania who voted for Jug Hussein Ears you better hope that you're not steelworkers. And you steelworkers who voted for JHE? Have fun standing in the unemployment line. That's "change you can believe in". Going from having a job to not having a job. You did it to yourselves. Gun. Bullet. Foot.
The Alliance to Save Energy and other environmental organization are urging the president-elect to make good on his campaign promises to focus on energy efficiency, including a economy-wide cap-and-trade program, as a key solution to the nation’s energy, economic, and environmental challenges.
Yep! Good idea. Let's destroy the manufacturing sector and ship more jobs overseas. But that's OK. JHE is gonna create five million new "green jobs". How's he gonna do that? Just like he's gonna solve our energy crisis. Poof! PFM
"He (Obama) wants cap and trade where people have to pay for their carbon emissions," Bradford said. "Integrated steelmakers put out three times more carbon emissions than the minimills."Integrated steelmakers, such as U.S. Steel Corp. and ArcelorMittal, produce steel using a two-step process, first by heating a combination of iron ore, coke and limestone in blast furnaces to produce pig iron, which is then made into steel in basic oxygen furnaces.
And that's the rub. That's where the CO2 comes from.
Minimills melt steel scrap metal in electric furnaces to produce steel.
That's fine as long as there is scrap steel. I guess we can get that from other countries. We don't need an integrated steel industry. Ship all them jobs to China. Screw the steelworkers. While you dudes are standing in the unemployment line you can take solace that you are helping the oceans to recede and the planet to heal. Don't it feel great? Aren't you happy that you voted yourself out of a job? Maybe JHE will pay your mortgage and pay for your gas.
"Our biggest concern about (carbon dioxide) reduction schemes is that unless developing countries are held to the same standards, industry will go offshore," Armstrong said. "One of the ultimate paradoxes is that it would increase rather than decrease (carbon dioxide) emissions because developing countries don't have the same efficiencies in production of electricity, and don't would have stringent emission requirements and could generate more (carbon dioxide)."
Now there he goes using logic. That's not very fair. Liberals don't like logic.
While we're talking about cap and trade, I hope all you beauzeaus who voted for BozObama are happy when your electric bills go up. Since over half of our electricity comes from coal, cap and trade is gonna hit electric utilities really hard. And remember, JHE doesn't want any new coal fired plants. He wants to bankrupt them. He also doesn't want nuclear. And of course, we can't build any new dams 'cause that will prolly interfere with snail darters and spotted owls.
We're gonna need a shitload of electricity to power all them electric cars. I wonder where it's gonna come from? I know! I know! Wind, solar, and Poof! PFM! Pope Albert I of the Church of AGW wants is to get all of our electricity from wind, solar, and renewable sources of energy in ten years. Like I said: Poof! PFM!
But then, he is the "Magic Negro". He and his willing cohorts in Congress, like Speaker Blinky, are gonna destroy the steel industry and the electric utilities. But we'll all feel good in our cold, dark houses because we elected our first black president and we're "saving the planet".
How does that make y'all feel? Rainbows and puppy dogs, right? What's the matter? Don't y'all like change?
Posted by denny at November 12, 2008 11:44 AMDenny, your "We're Fucked" post still has the No. 1 spot on Google. Folks, can't say Denny didn't warn you long ago.
Posted by: Paul on November 12, 2008 12:51 PMActually, it all makes sense now. See, if I remember correctly he promised a tax break for companies that DON'T ship jobs overseas. Well, now he's making it impossible NOT too.
Brilliant.
Asshole.
(now I'm just gonna go cash my unemployement check and wait in line for some of that there free cheese....)
Posted by: Tammi on November 12, 2008 12:57 PMi love your vivid logic, denny, always have.
my favorite part "gun. bullet. foot." bravo!
Wow, don't get me started on this topic. Of all the lunatic ideas foisted upon us from the left, AGW has to be near the top of the list. Like you said, after we wreck our economy, all the 3rd world countries who gladly took on our industries will be pumping out twice the CO2 we ever did. And guess what? It won't make a damn bit of difference in the global temperatures. Sheesh.
Read this for some great commentary on the whole AGW bullshit: http://www.junkscience.com/
Posted by: Schmidty on November 12, 2008 01:36 PMVery little of our scrap steel and most other scrap metals ever make it to US mini mills, Most goes overseas. We are losing vast amounts of our resources every year.
The smokestack job loses will start very soon and I belive the numbers will be huge and long term . The hardest hit will be union jobs because the numbers just dont work in a whole world economy. 25.00 an hour with full benefits in a clean warm dry high tech factory vs. 2.00 a day in a shit hole. The sad part is the 2.00 a day workers work hard and are thankful they even have a fucking job.
I bet things will get a little testy around the union halls in a few months . Well Boo Fucking Hoo
In my lifetime I've watched many companies killed by unions going on strike for weeks at a time to get another nickle raise and more freebies . Gun Bullet Foot perfect ....
My dilemma thanks to the assholes that run government, esp. the dims.
I have worked in the construction industry my whole life. I presently work for one of the largest developers in the country and am building the "last big harrah" of the guilded age, Trump Hollywood Condominium, Hollywood, Fl.
Well, the everyone should have the American dream home ownership affirmative action moves,i.e., Community Reinvestment Act (Carter), some bill that furhter forced the banks to lend unqualified buyers (Clinton), then Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack, have all resulted in a construction boom never before seen (bothered me because so much was being built at once I knew where it was headed), and of course a construction bust like never before seen.
So, this and other factors result in a financial meltdown, my 401k as in retirement money, pension, whatever you wish to call it, tanks.
Now with the construction bust millions of people are out of work, esp. in construction and related industries. I figure I have about 6 -8 months before I too am out kicking beer cans down the street.
The worst part is that being the one of the older, experienced and more qualified people in the industry I am highly paid BUT will probably not find another job ever again. THERE ARE NO MORE LARGE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS THAT CAN JUSTIFY MY SALARY, which is what I need to keep my house, pay child support and eat. (People I know in the business are actually taking jobs in Africa, the last great constrution frontier?).
So, in the meantime, our gummit is giving away money so wall street types can retire with their millions of dollars, at our expense. Now they want to give away our money to an industry that has made bad decisions for years, the auto industry.
They want to take money from me to pay pensions for auto workers because of bad decisions private execs. made. I'd like to know who is paying for my fucking pension that got lost for the reasons noted above. I need a fucking bailout for having gotten screwed from every direction.
The only consolation is I'll be out of work and not paying no mo fucking taxes. So, fuck them.
Fucking incompetent gummit assholes who have no idea what they are doing. They couldn't even run a 7/11 let alone a country.
The Founding Fathers only mistake was they thought that the voters who elected people to government and the people they elected would be somewhat educated or, have some analytical capabilities or, at least have some common fucking sense.
Not the case.
Denny, thanks for posting this article. I'm just taking some time out to eat a bite for lunch here at the steel mill.
What complicates this even more is the extra steps that they'll take to screw things up even more. First they'll make domestic steel expensive with their cap and trade tax scheem. To make their union buddies happy, they'll impose taxes or restrictions on imported steel so manufacturers are forced to buy expensive steel no matter what. Then the manufacturers will realize that it's too expensive to manufacture in the US, and the house of cards collapses.
Once you eliminate the manufacturing base in this country, we'll be reduced to having nothing but government and service industry jobs. I can hardly wait!
Posted by: Steve S. on November 12, 2008 01:49 PMOh sorry, I am upset.
Great Article Denny.
Send it in to the Atlanta Constipation and Urinal for publication. But footnote what PFM means.
JHE is gonna create five million new "green jobs". How's he gonna do that? Just like he's gonna solve our energy crisis. Poof! PFM
Yup, you got it! five million rickshaw draggers. Green energy, not a drop of fossil fuel unless they drink really old scotch to ease the pain in their blistered feet.
Whoda thunk he couldn't learn something from the commies?
Jeremy, pulling that rickshaw around is hard work. That's bound to cause a lot of heavy breathing. Heavy breathing leads to large amounts of CO2 being released into the atmosphere. We can't have that now, can we? Better scrap that idea. We all need to work from home.
Posted by: Steve S. on November 12, 2008 03:28 PMOur area built up rapidly too. Condominiums and McMansions as well as rows of cookie cutter houses. My husband and my friends and I often wondered out loud where the people were going to come from to buy these houses ... I suspected most of them were spec houses, not built to order. I guess, unfortunately, I was right! Empty buildings .... so depressing ...
Posted by: PeggyU on November 12, 2008 03:46 PMOnly a liberal could believe "green jobs" create wealth rather than being an indirect tax on real jobs.
As for keeping US CO2 emissions down by outsourcing our manufacturing to countries that don't give a crap about such things, well...these are the people who won't allow any more drilling in the Gulf while the Russians and the Chinese set up rigs just outside our national waters (using directional drilling to drain our deposits first) taking all the environmental precautions one would expect of the Russians and the Chinese.
The only good thing on the horizon is that Mr and Mrs America, despite what they might say, have a very low tolerance for pain. Just look at the results of the $4+ gas in California--approval of offshore drilling went from 36% to 63% in just a few weeks. The bad thing is that I don't expect BHO and his cronies to give a crap. Look at how the Republican politicians ignored the voter's howls (82%) for killing the amnesty. And it's my humble guess that BHO and his pals will be even better at ignoring the proles, because they are on a Holy Mission to Save Us All.
If I may quote a respected political thinker: "We're Fucked."
You don't understand. The steel mills generate CO2 big time. CO2 is killing the planet. We've got to shut down the steel mills to save the planet. This will satisfy the Kyoto Treaty and everyone will like us again. Then we can import our steel from China. Steel mills in China don't emit CO2.
Posted by: Talkin Horse on November 12, 2008 05:55 PMIf it was not for the fact that I am a newly minted father (of an advanced age) I would sit back and enjoy the destruction people have brought on their heads....sometimes "serves them right" seems to fit.
Posted by: thud on November 12, 2008 07:04 PMNot to worry, soon the government will own all industry and then we will all die a slow death. I can say that I am too old to worry but I am worried. I never thought that I would see this country go in the shit hole so early and fast. All the years I spent defending this country is for naught.
Posted by: gene on November 12, 2008 08:48 PMI demand (let's see where that gets me) as a taxpayer bailing out the automotive industry, that they eliminate all positions held by union workers and forbid the unions from having anything to do with their companies again. This is a condition of them using my money, and if it's not abided by, then pound sand.
Talkinghorse......
Your post that Steel Mills in china do not emit CO2..... It is hard to determine whether it is real or a joke as I have had experience with greenies who reason exactly as you posted.
I took it as a joke but in case you were serious.....I know which end of the horse the statement came from.
Posted by: dudley1 on November 13, 2008 08:28 AMIt is those same steelworkers in NW Indiana that gave the state to a dim for the first time in more than 40 years. Death by suicide, indeed.
Posted by: hoosierboy on November 13, 2008 08:54 AMCould those steel workers be "unionized". If so, it explains everthing. Organized labor is not but a foot step from a socialized work force and the fact that it exists to this day is a mystery to me. But then again, I run a business in an at will state. If a union every came to Georgia to try to "force" their way into the areas they have done so in other parts of the country, Walmart would have an explosion in the sale of lynching ropes.
Dudley1- He had to be joking. easy there boy.
Denny - phenomenal post. this promises to be a grand case of over promise/under deliver. at some point the unions and greenies are going to look at each other, figure out that he promised opposite things to both and he can't deliver on either. hopefully one of the byproducts of that moment will be one of those lynching ropes that Ray was talking about tied to Keith Olberman on one end and the business end of an oak on the other.
Posted by: patrick on November 13, 2008 09:26 AMGene is absolutely right, and I've been saying it for some time: "bailout" is another word for the phrase "goverment takeover/ownership" and THAT is how Communism evolves from Socialism.
The government WILL own everything - your land, your business, your bank account (silly me! - you won't have one!), your children's education, your right to move about the country freely - and for you Democrats, your souls, as well.
When it becomes reality, I'll have the last laugh on all the jokers who scream I'm a racist/conspiracy theorist. Like father, like son (yes, Obama's father was a communist in the Kenyan "government" - if you can call it that).
Remember the American soldiers who became behind-the-lines guerillas in the South Pacific during WWII? The went "up into the hills" and they did their absolute best to damage the Japanese from behind the lines. Keep that thought in mind in the coming days, folks...
