Looks like the governor of Illinois was busted for trying to sell Jug Hussein Ears senate seat. Corruption in Illinois politics? I'm shocked!
Let's see what the Chicago Tribune has to say.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, were arrested by FBI agents on federal corruption charges Tuesday morning.Blagojevich and Harris were arrested simultaneously at their homes at about 6:15 a.m., according to Frank Bochte of the FBI. Both were transported to FBI headquarters in Chicago.
In one charge related to the appointment of a senator to replace Barack Obama, prosecutors allege that Blagojevich sought appointment for himseld as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the new Obama administration, or a lucrative job with a union, in exchange for appointing a union-preferred candidate.
Another charge alleges Blagojevich and Harris conspired to demand the firing of Chicago Tribune editorial board members responsible for editorials critical of him in exchange for state help with the sale of Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs baseball stadium owned by Tribune Co.
The story goes on for 25 more paragraphs and never mentions what party Blagojevich is a member of. It does somehow work Nixon and Watergate into the story.
C'mon GOC, I can hear you say, the Chicago Tribune is an Illinois newspaper. Everyone in Chicago knows that Blagojevich is a Dimocrat.
On an amusing note, the owner of the Chicago Tribune and the LA Times just filed for bankruptcy. Maybe the people in LA and Chicago are tired of the blatant bias in reporting.
Let's see how the AP fares in this story. This appeared in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
CHICAGO — Federal authorities arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Tuesday on charges that he brazenly conspired to sell or trade the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder.Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field, according to a federal criminal complaint. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper's editorial board who had been critical of him fired.
A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.
Holy crap! They actually named his party and they did it in the third pararaph! If he had been a Republican, it would have been in the first paragraph, but for the AP, even naming the party of A Dimocrat dooshbag is an improvement.
By the way for all of you folks who fell for JHE's Hope and Change bullshit, just remember that he comes from the same political machine that Blagojevich comes from.
Thanks to all who sent me links to this story.
Posted by denny at December 9, 2008 02:00 PMNo body here in Illinois likes this jerk. Glad to see him get what he deserves. We always knew he was a crook. Some people here believe that Durbin is pressing Bush to pardon Ryan so it won't look bad when they pardon Blow-job-a-vich. Just a theory.
Not lets see what happens when Tony Rezco really starts singing. Maybe we'll get the daily double.
Posted by: Steve S. on December 9, 2008 02:28 PMI was going to send this to you this morning....but I never made it through the 4th paragraph.
I'm with Steve S. - nobody likes this asstard. I sure as hell didn't vote for him, nor did anyone I know.
Posted by: Greg on December 9, 2008 02:31 PMAnd before anyone points this out...don't be fooled by the regular McCormick editorials calling for Blago to resign. That's the Tribune's "balance" act.
Posted by: Greg on December 9, 2008 02:51 PMNice find, almost as good as our Cash for Peerages story of last year.
Posted by: Curly on December 9, 2008 03:30 PMCulture of Corruption.
I want to see Charlie the Rangle go down.
The "Hope" I have is that the FBI and Justice Dept start to do their fucking jobs and get after all those corrupt pols of every stripe and affiliation.
That's the "Change" I want to see.
Also, good fucking riddings to the NYTs, LA Times, AP, and the rest of those American hating bastards. Newspapers are done, unless you still like buggy whips and vinyl records.
Posted by: Willie on December 9, 2008 03:33 PMI honestly didn't know his party affiliation. In fact, the story posted on Foxnews.com didn't even report his party affiliation so you pukes out there always bitching about FOX can go pound some sand. I had to find out his party affiliation the old fashion way by using his own web site. Media bias? Nahh!!!
Anyone who thinks Obama ain't dirty on this one is grossly naive.
Posted by: Paul on December 9, 2008 03:55 PMI live in Illinois and none of this is new. Both parties are equally corrupt.
Obama is a Daley machine politician and I'm amazed that he was elected. I just watched Obama being interviewed on FNC and without a teleprompter, it was all ooh's and eer's. Folks wanted hope and change and they just bought into a little of Illinois corruption.
But, I ain't gonna bitch anymore. As I'm fond of saying, Illinois has the best politicians and judges that money can buy (and they can be bought).

Scratching head now........
40th Governor of Illinois

Assumed office

Steve - Greg, not directed at you....Denny has the answer.....
Posted by: B....... on December 9, 2008 04:44 PMName that Party-once again. Keep up the good work fellas!
Posted by: LisaKay on December 9, 2008 05:53 PMNYTs named his party in the second paragraph of their article.
The O man already said he hadn't spoken with this clown even though last week one of his political cronies was interviewed on Fox and said that O was in contact with the Gov. about his vacant seat.
Now, O's people said the guy misspoke.
A scandal already and the motherfucker hasn't even been sworn in.
I use the MF word as a term of endearment. Besides that's what the Gov called him.
Also, that Gov (refuse to bother looking up that strange name) is one ugly motherfucka.
Posted by: Willie on December 9, 2008 06:02 PMThe article I read this morning did not mention his party, but did mention former republican governor Ryan. Makes ya wonder why they could include the former governor and his party, but not the current scum.
Blagojevich was elected governor in 2003 as a reformer promising to clean up former Gov. George Ryan's mess.
Ryan, a Republican, is serving a six-year prison sentence after being convicted on racketeering and fraud charges. A decade-long investigation began with the sale of driver's licenses for bribes and led to the conviction of dozens of people who worked for Ryan when he was secretary of state and governor.
This from my cache. The current article now has dumbasses party.
Posted by: Jeremy on December 9, 2008 07:29 PMIllinois Politics Obama Style....
Hope, Change, Same old Crooks.......Same old Bullshit! I expect we will see a parade of this crooked Crap for the next four years. Like I said in a previous post........I sincerely hope Obama gets to serve his full four years as I want all American idiots to get a full plate of
liberal Bullshit & Lies out in the open where even the welfare base cannot ignore the truth.I really wonder with him selecting all the Clintonistas whether he will be Arkancided.
I also wonder .....Is that stupid welfare bimbo still enthused with joy & waiting for the Obama Hope & Change Bandwagon to swing down her street with a bag full of money to pay her utilities, car & insurance bills?
Posted by: dudley1 on December 9, 2008 07:45 PMWe have nothing to be concerned about here folks. I have received "The Word" from "The One" at the "Office of The President Elect" that he is going to use his special Hopey-Changey magic to make all of this go away.
He has assured me that all promises made during the campain will be honored. You will get your gumment rebate checks, free medical and the Starbucks cards as promised. Just hold on to your hope for change.
Trickle up corruption?
Posted by: kerrcarto on December 9, 2008 08:00 PMKerrcarto, Yep, you just nailed it but good. Trickle up corruption indeed. And we will have plenty of it for Four more years. I hope the whole country does indeed get plenty of this garbage, Chicago style, and then gives him the boot after his time is up. Trickle up stupidity as well, from the country. Its going to be loooong four years folks.
Posted by: defshepard on December 9, 2008 08:25 PMno idea what Obmama knew. My guess is he did not know much because he can only lose from this and not gain. That said I am very concerned that this abuse of power is indeed becoming more rampant, strange, and shocking.
My hope is that Illinois has enough statesman in it to look up Gov. Buyavowel for a very long time. I'd like to have this guy look at OJ's parole date as "half way".
He says he is not going to resign. My guess is that the Obamafia will pay him a visit and he will have his first Arkanside if the resignation is not quick.
Posted by: patrick on December 9, 2008 09:04 PMThe AP should take over writing these stories. They get the party in the SECOND PARAGRAPH.
EDIT:
Hold on there, that is about Republican Larry Craig.
Obama being corrupt? What about the ethics law Obama had fought the dishonorable Gov on?
http://tinyurl.com/5ecwks
Oh, I'm sure that was just a ploy (conspiracies abound, right?). And it is in the NYT- it might as well be a chapter in the communist manifesto. Get real.
Anyways, aside from the former Gov, the GOP in Illinois isn't corrupt, it is just full of idiots.
Obama has one person and one person only to thank- Jack Ryan. While no one can overstate Blago's new depths of corruption, Jack Ryan asked his wife to perform sexual acts with him in public, and in Sex clubs in New York, New Orleans, and Paris. Jeri Ryan described one as "a bizarre club with cages, whips and other apparatus hanging from the ceiling."
So, you have it ALL in IL- bi partisan corruption, sex, bribery, vote stealing, the divine right of governors/mayors, etc.- I mean really! It is perfect! I wonder if BushCo used IL as a model...
Now watch how B. HUSSEIN's flunkies in the lamestream media fall all over themselves trying to insulate their boy from this mess.
Posted by: thatjerryguy on December 10, 2008 09:21 AMIt is interesting to speculate where Fitzgerald is going with this...one can only hope!
Posted by: thud on December 10, 2008 09:22 AMHave you guys ever heard of "guilt by association" or "association fallacy?"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_fallacy
Just because Obama is from IL does not MEAN he is automatically corrupt. He may indeed be, but it is no ONLY because he knew Rod or participated in state-level politics. Use your brains instead of jumping to ideologically-blinded conclusions.
Posted by: whatever on December 10, 2008 09:36 AMI just love Chicago Aldermen..
This is from the Chicago Tribune 3-18-2008
Not long after his son-in-law Rod Blagojevich became governor, Ald. Richard Mell (33rd) sought to squeeze a sizable kickback out of an insider deal at a state pension fund, according to testimony Monday in federal court.
Did anyone realize that:
Since 1972, 29 current and former Chicago alderman have been sentenced to jail.
How corrupt is Chicago? If the number of Chicago alderman sentenced to prison since 1972 was extrapolated to the US House, it would be as if roughly 250 congressman had gone to jail in the same period. That would be about 7 per year.
How corrupt is Illinois? Since 1960, Illinois has had seven elected governors. Three of them have gone to jail; current Gov. Blagojevich is presently under federal investigation.
"Yeah, but what about Sen. Larry Craig in the men's room?! Isn't that a lot worse than Blagojevich? And, oh yeah, Dan Quayle can't spell potato. Ha Ha!" Well, liberals seemed a lot more concerned about those issues than one about a Democratic involved in severe corruption.
Posted by: Woody on December 10, 2008 09:59 AMLiberal flunkies rush to Obama`s defense....
Unlike the situation when all you asshats tried to paint Bush with the guilt of Association tarbrush & failed, Obama is a product of the very same political machine which spawned Rod the Governor.
In fact Rod was a promoter or enabler of Obama & was trying to gain monetary advantage from the sale of Obama`s senate seat. Obama may not have been a party to this travesty but is from the same cesspool as is good old Rod.This is just upscale Democratic politics as practiced in Chicago Illinois.
To deny the obvious conclusion for what is normal for Chicago Illinois politicians & fail to take note of Obama`s connection to the cesspool is yet another normal Democratic reaction for the supporters of Chicago politics. Asshats, that is what everyone of you dipshits who voted for Obama are.
Posted by: dudley1 on December 10, 2008 10:08 AM"Obama has one person and one person only to thank- Jack Ryan."
Not entirely. Jack Ryan's divorce records were *sealed* with joint agreement between him and his wife. The Republican party in Illinois turned on Ryan and let him hang out to dry (they seem to do that far more often than the Dems). Plus, the sealed divorce records were unsealed by a California judge for essentially no reason at all other than because he wanted to. Thanks California! Just wondering why in hell a California judge thinks he has jurisdiction over an Illinois politician.
Posted by: Jim on December 10, 2008 10:59 AMGreg - Your vote doesn't matter. Only the living and dead voters in Chicago matter.
You're forgetting Homer Simpson, Jack Bauer, Peter Griffin, Denny Crane, etc...
Posted by: Greg on December 10, 2008 11:15 AMObama does'nt know MY ASS!!!!!!!!!
Look Obama...just investigate them as well as you did Joe the Plumber or Sarah the Barracuda...
then you would IMPRESS me.....
By the way have you given your last respects to your GrandMother??????

Yeah, and Charlie Rangel "forgets" to pay his taxes, Joe Biden thinks FDR was President in 1929 (and appeared on TV!) and B. HUSSEIN believes there's 57 states. Just the tip of the democrats libtard iceberg.
Posted by: thatjerryguy on December 10, 2008 11:55 AMJim: As I recall, there was some speculation that Obama had something to do with the "unsealing" of Ryan's divorce records.
Posted by: PeggyU on December 10, 2008 03:28 PMI recall it had to do with Obama's senate race.
Posted by: PeggyU on December 10, 2008 03:34 PMSo, let me see if I've got this straight: a newspaper in California sues for the release of sealed personal papers in Illinois and wins. Could another news agency in whatever state not also sue the state of Hawaii for the release of a sealed document? It is relevant to the job the politician applied for! More relevant than deviant sex escapades. Isn't it the public's right to know? I know, I know ... black helicopter Republican accusations commence. But really, why the hell hasn't he produced it? For Pete's sake! I've obtained certified copies of birth certificates for all of our family members. It's not difficult or expensive and people do it every day for different reasons. So why is this simple request so damned difficult for him to grant? T
Posted by: PeggyU on December 10, 2008 04:31 PMPeggy - In Obama's state senate race, he managed to get all of his opponents thrown off the ballot. In his US Senate race, Ryan's divorce records were magically unsealed and Ryan dropped out of the race and was replaced by Alan Keyes. What a gift. Then in the presidential race he was gifted with McRINO, who was only able to run as close as he did due to Sarah Palin.
Posted by: Denny on December 10, 2008 04:53 PMI still think Jughaid prolly has some skeletons in his closet that he's sweatin' bullets about right now...If not, he would be the exception to the rule of slimy-ass Chicago politics...Maybe Rezko will start singin'...The Reverend Junior sure did get up there & profess his innocence quick like a bunny rabbit, didn't he ? Man, wouldn't it be GREAT if the whole sorry house of cards came a-tumblin' down around 'em ? Obama & Michelle BOTH doin' the Perp Walk...Oh, please, God....(grin)-Unca Sandy
Posted by: Sandy G. on December 10, 2008 05:16 PMMark my words, the Clintons have something on this dude. They've been way too quiet and out of sight for the magical negro to slide into the position as easily as he's doing. I predict some major breaking news before 1/20/09.
Posted by: Ray on December 10, 2008 08:07 PMRay, I doubt that they do or why would Hillary have signed up to be on his team?
I truly don't think Obama knew about this crap. He may have suspected it. as for me, I am going to wait until I see the whites of his eyes before I fire. The left's strategy was to throw everything against the wall to see what would stick.
With my strategy either he will behave himself completely which will be fine, or when and if he does fvck up there will be some serious ordinance coming from Patrickvania.
