Al Franken is a mockery of the Senate. He is the American equivalent of Illona Staller, the porn star who was in the Italian Parliament in the 80's. The Italian party boss who engineered her election did so for the same reason the Roman Emperor Nero engineered the election of his horse to the Roman Senate, and that is to show contempt for the political body.
On second thought he is the equivalent of Nero's horse. Or at least the back half.
