Dang it Denny,

Now the wife wants a polar bear coat.

I told her that when I can fish Perch out
of Little Elbow Lake in Minnesota in February,
She'll get it.

This just in from the AP:
Weather officials in western New York predicted that Lake Erie will freeze over for the first time in five years within a week.

well at least the polar bears will be able to walk to Georgia, and not have to swim Lake Erie.

Richard.......

The weather officials in Western NY must be thinking of Chautauqua Lake. Here in Erie Pennsylvania we have Two Lake Freighter`s arriving this week coming into Erie Harbor from Lake Erie.

It is going to take longer then a week for the Lake to freeze over, Hell you can see white caps on Lake Erie down here today.

So much for the intelligence of NY Official`s....almost as stupid as PA officials who posted a warning in todays paper for the ice fishermen on Presque Isle bay to watch out for the Lake Freighters & not get to close to them.

Ever see an entire lake freeze over? It CAN happen overnight if the temperatures are right and the winds are calm. Temperatures will be below zero over Lake Erie tonight and tomorrow night (Thursday and Friday) and this is following over a week of below freezing highs. Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes. It has less water to hold on to heat. Don't be shocked if those freighters need icebreakers to get them out of the harbor after they've completed their business.

Now that stupid song is stuck in my evil head.

That there is funny. I can't stand the real song but I can tolerate this one.

It's a great song. The guys knocked themselves out on that video production, too. The wife put me onto it. My thanks to her, to Denny, and to the Minnesotans for Global Warming.

Meanwhile we heard about the bulletin that Lake Erie may freeze over next week.

Joated.......

I live in Erie Pa & am very familiar with Lake Erie & when it freezes over. I spent 7 years as a Pennsylvania Deputy Water Conservation Officer with considerable time on the lake.

Looking out over the lake today there are still long areas of open water interspersed with areas of ice cover. Even when the lake is frozen over , the ice is very thin & subject to breakup unless you have weeks of very cold weather. It occasionally happens though & it is possible it will occur this year but to proclaim the lake as completed frozen over at this time is just not true & could be very dangerous to any who think it is time for a hike to Canada.

Incidently the two ships did not make harbor yet as they are waiting for icebreakers to arrive to clear thicker ice just outside the harbor entrance.
