Posted by: Chappy on May 5, 2009 01:47 PMYou can't bash the French anymore. They're doing more to combat Somalian pirates than anyone.
Posted by: Steve S. on May 5, 2009 08:21 PMExcellent!
The French can always be bashed and should be at any and every given opportunity. They've earned it...
Posted by: CharlieDelta on May 5, 2009 09:46 PMAccording to the Obamanation it's Cinco de Cuatro.
Posted by: Ralph Gizzip on May 6, 2009 08:32 PMI can deal with it...
We are very proud of one defeat against the mexican army.
So proud we call it "Cameron Day".
2000 mexicans aginst 60 French Legionnaires...
I like this French bashing...
Prosper`s battle history corrected.......
The battle commemorated by Cinco De Mayo was on 5/5/1862 in the morning. It was between the Mexican Army of some 4000 soldiers & the French Army of 6,500 Dragoons & some 1,500 Mexican traitors. The Mexican Army did prevail on the battlefield by completely destroying the French Army & their Mexican traitors.
The victory was short lived as the French returned a year later with 30,000 troops, overwhelmed the Mexican Army , captured Mexico City & installed Maximillian as ruler of Mexico.
That rule by the French puppet only lasted 3 years as after the civil war in the United States , the United States supplied military aid & assistance to the legitimate Mexican forces which then overthrew the Maximillian regime, killed him & forced the French to leave.
The French Foreign Legion was indeed a part of the greater French Army who lost the above battle as 62 legionnaires with 3 French officer`s were probably the only element who fought with distinction. However I guess it is important to remind Prosper that historically most Legionnaires are of foreign nationality who serve under French Officer`s.
I do not dispute the valor or bravery of the French Foreign Legion , their honor & fame is well deserved but this battle was non the less a loss for the French Military & with the exception of the Legion should not be celebrated in France.
I guess it is also interesting that while we are pilloried by Prosper for our efforts in the War on Terror , somehow the attempt by France to overthrow the legitimate government of Mexico & install a French puppet is something of honor & celebration.
Posted by: dudley1 on May 8, 2009 10:36 AMCameron Day is strictly observed among Legionnaires, it is not a national celebration.
Posted by: zoomerx on May 8, 2009 10:12 PMZoomerx.....
Apparently Prosper does not share your opinion as he jumped on the bandwagon & underestimated French forces by a smidgin ....about 6,440 or so.
Anyway I did not intend to find fault with or imply the FFL was not honorable, I was just pilloring Prosper who always shoots at America`s military institutions.

Nice work. Reading you put Prosper in his place has always been a pleasure! Have you ever noticed how he takes a "vacation" after you shut him down?
Maybe I'll bring him along to my next AA Meeting. I hear he's looking to be a Sponser...
How 'bout it Prosper?
Will you be my Sponser?
