As the Secretary of the Sommelier Guild of Atlanta, I am responsible for the monthly mailings. After the latest rate increase, I was left with seventy four 42 cent stamps. So, I went to the Post Office today to buy seventy Four 2 cent stamps (as well as some 44 cent stamps). So I got to the counter and requested seventy four 2 cent stamps. Guess what? They didn't have any. All they had were 1 cent stamps.
Think about this. The Post Office raises the price of a first class stamp by 2 cents. Now wouldn't ya think that they would furnish all of their branches with a shitload of 2 cent stamps to sell to all of the folks who had leftover 42 cent stamps? Yeah. Me too.
Yeah. Yeah. This is a little thing. But think a little more. These are the people that we want to put in charge of our health care system. These are also gonna be the people running GM and Chrysler.
We're doomed!
Posted by denny at May 20, 2009 05:10 PMI'm lazy I just use 2 42 cent stamps until they are gone...of course I only buy one boox of stamps per year.
Posted by: hammer on May 20, 2009 05:26 PMWhat is a "stamp?"
Posted by: Two Dogs on May 20, 2009 05:28 PMJust buy nothing but 1 cent stamps. Put as many on the mailing as you need for whatever rate increase is set. Only problem is you might need a bigger envelope. Oh, and eventually the price to mail the stamps will exceed the price to mail the mail.
Posted by: Glenmore on May 20, 2009 07:55 PMDenny,
The problem is that you are not thinking like the government. The 42 cent stamps are obsolete. Move them to the back of the drawer for two years and then throw them out when cleaning. In the meantime requesition as many 44 cent stamps as you may need. If you have any extra 44 cent stamps at the end of your fiscal year, find a way to use them. If necessary, mail items to the other side of the room so that you can use all the stamps and justify an increase in stamps for next year.
And you were looking for 2 cent stamps.
So silly.
Posted by: Brad on May 20, 2009 09:29 PMwe only buy those forever stamps.
Posted by: patrick on May 20, 2009 09:56 PMMy post office was conveniently out of forever stamps at the beginning of this month, forcing me to buy 42 cent stamps and then cheerfully offering to sell me 2 cent stamps so I would be ready for the rate increase.
Posted by: Jackie D on May 20, 2009 10:03 PMIt also costs the idiots more money to print individual 1 cent stamps as opposed to the 2 cent stamps
Posted by: Steve K on May 20, 2009 10:16 PMpatrick - Unfortunately, they don't sell them in the 100 or 50 stamp rolls.

Wait till you see the Envronmental Impact Statement you have to file to get a lube job and oil change on a (G)uvment (M)ade Chevey.
Oh! and replacement parts? That "Mil Spec" window wiper blade is $1000.00. You see it's dual acting. It not only wipes the water off when it goes to the left, but also when it goes to the right.
Pete
Whatcha complaining about Denny.....?
Do you realize most European countries still sell the kind of stamps you have to lick.
YUCK!!!!

Good catch Pete
How about a Jayne Mansfield 44-Cent Stamp?

Pete,
Actually you're mistaken on this. A government designed wiper will only work in one direction. If you want one that goes in both you'll have to pay extra.
Posted by: thatjerryguy on May 21, 2009 09:20 AMYour last sentence says, "These are the people running GM and Chrysler."
Here I thought that Kommissar Zero was the One running Chrysler and Government Motors. After all, isn't He the self-appointed CEO of both companies, with undisclosed salaries from those companies (and maybe Fiat, too. Who knows?) But, while He is still the ACORN-anointed "leader" of our country, such monies would have to be kept in an escrow (read "secret and offshore") account, probably in the Cayman Islands. Not that I am suggesting that the Kommissar would do anything at all untoward. Not at all, at all.
And if anyone here believes that, then you will believe anything that Pinocchio Pelosi says about anything.
Posted by: Scottiebill on May 21, 2009 02:00 PMhey, that jerryguy,
I'm being optimistic that that the Senate could
pass a "bipartison" wiper bill.
We'll just have to wait and seee what comes out of commttie in 10 years.

You aren't thinking. Buy as many 1-centers as you can and fill the envelope, both sides if need be, with 44 1-centers. Make em count! Sand in the vasoline, my friend, sand in the vasoline.
