Ron sent me this.
But he does want to tell Israel what to do. Hey American Jews. D'ya have any buyer's remorse yet?
Tune in tomorrow for another one of Ron's rants.
He is one lucky Kenyan that this is going down. If this resistance produces change, and I think it will, it rids America of its #1 threat....at least mitigates it way down. To think that what has happened in Iraq did not influence this is just foolish. This is a manifestation of Bush's policies and we have an ungrateful halfrican beneficiary. Without Bush doing the heavy lifting in Iraq this day never happens.
This is the most profound and meaningful political change since the Berlin wall came down and Eastern Europe grabbed freedom.
Posted by: patrick on June 21, 2009 09:34 PMToo many people are just too stubborn to admit that Obama is nothing but a communist with charisma.
Posted by: Lange on June 21, 2009 09:34 PMJibJab premiered this video with BHO in attendance. Wish I could have seen his face. Ears flapping as he flies through the air...hilarious.
Posted by: Jackie D on June 21, 2009 10:08 PMLange calls HIS President a Communist?
Gosh, why isn't Lange in jail?
Maybe because charges-hurled have no basis-in-fact? Maybe because we still have the Freedom of Speech that more than a few of us fought for? (Or so we were told)
Sorta-kinda like me hurling charges against GWB, right?
But I never charged GWB with being a Communist.
So, Hey! American Jews! How do you like being lumped together and painted with a broad-brush?
Not that I would ever do such a thing.

Posted by: PeggyU on June 21, 2009 11:27 PMPatrick, could you explain why getting rid of Saddam could weaken Iran ?
and don't forget protestors still support Iranian revolution...
Posted by: Prosper on June 22, 2009 05:54 AMPatrick, I wish you were right, but I think it's not going to play out anymore than it has up until now. If memory serves me correctly, this isn't the first time the Iranians have had an uprising in their wonderful country of the Islamic cult. And if memory serves, those previous protests have been met with the same bead down force the mad mullahs are obviously instituting now (see Hot Air for woman shot in throat during one of the protests).
Prosper, the answer to your question is so blatantly obvious that even a socialist/pacifist such as yourself should be able to see it. Our conquest in Iraq has allowed the other barbarians in that area of the world realize that they CAN have an elected form of government and they can be had in a peaceful (well at least semi-peaceful which is the closest you can have with the Islamic cult being the center of the society) manner that allows all those involved to have a say in the process. I realize that your hatred for the country that liberated your forefathers is so overwhelming that you can't see this simple fact, but it exists.
Posted by: Ray on June 22, 2009 08:13 AMRay, Iranians ALREADY have an elected form of government. The leader of opposition was prime minister from 1981 to 1989. Of course you didn't know that.
Is that all your simple facts?
Too bad, you for once had the opportunity to express a grown up point of view.
Try again : why a fallen sunni dictature has help to destabilize a shi'ite democracy ?
note for dudley : shi'ite/shit. What do you think? you could surpass your box/cox joke!

A fundemental tenant that is I have is that people want freedom. The only ones that don't want it are the ones oppressing the ones that do. If you or anyone else does not subscribe to that then nothing I say will make any sense.
That said, toppling Saddam and introducing freedom is a poison to nearby oppressors. Understand that I am not saying this was a reason to topple Saddam. It is simply a strategic byproduct of the war.
I too have heard that these people still support the Mullahs. I don't believe it though. If we listen to the media we hear that "the people are against the current fascist regime but still support the mullahs." Really? its worth all of this demonstrating and risking of lives and arrest to simply take an incremental step forward but still have mullahs picking all candidates, keeping the women down, pursuing nuclear weapons, forgoing economic freedom and prosperity etc etc.??
I don't buy it.
When we've seen this type of peaceful revolt in the past 30 years ( Philippines, all over Europe, Iran/79) it has always portended great fundamental change.
Ray - the University of Tehran uprising was successfully put down in the late '90s. No, this is not the first time. It has never gone this far though or this long.
I obviously don't know what will happen. I think though that we will see real change here. I could be way wrong. I think these people yearn for freedom. They seem to be willing to pay a helluva price for whatever it is that they want, so I don't think what they want is trading one oppressive puppet for another.
Posted by: patrick on June 22, 2009 12:14 PMIranians ALREADY have an elected form of government
Yeah, so do the Venezuelans. Snort.
Posted by: PeggyU on June 22, 2009 12:19 PMProsper.......You really ought to quit trying to be funny as being French & being laughed at hardly qualifies one to aspire to be a comedian.
DanS.....You being one of those who championed the Messiah will be dis-heartened I`m sure, the line of those who consider him to be a Communist sympathizer due to his policie`s is getting longer & Yes I am in it.
Know your enemy, identify what he stands for & let others know.
Prosper, you surprise me. Iran's longest running international border is with Iraq. Are you too naive and bourgeoisie to understand democracy could cross that border? The Iranians see the freedom in Iraq via al jazeera and el arabiya. They want it too. The women want their rights and are tired of wearing 20 yards of cloth around their bodies when they go out. They want to enjoy sex. They want to drink Crown Royal. They want an open internet. They want their vote to count. George Bush and the men and women of the US armed forces cleared the cesspool of Iraq. We lost valuable lives, and it was horrible business, but it was the right thing to do. The idiotic liberals see the military as only killers, but that is a false impression spread by libs who never served in the military. How many signs have you seen the protesters hold up in French? How many in English? Even though the Iranians are taught to hate us at birth, they realize that we did the right thing in Iraq. Naturally, they do not want us in their country. But, they realize that a ease in tension and a normal relationship with the US is attainable and in their best interest. With Ahmadinejad, they know it will never happen. That is why the election was so important. Why the phd's of the press do not understand this is beyond me. Even though I have dodged bullets in the mid east in the military, I RESPECT THOSE IRANIAN WOMEN who have been killed in the most cowardly and barbaric means. Even though my religious and political beliefs are different, I AM WITH NEDA. She had the balls to defy the bullshit edict of the mullahs, and died making a statement. And the horrible fucking brutality of her death lays bear the root of Islam for all to see. The signs in English are for us. And I see them. And I say give the mullahs hell. And for those of you here who still do not understand, one day Neda could be you. And for those of you who still do not understand, you never will. You are a Democrat.
Prosper, how is the black box search going? The signs are in English for a reason dude.
This is my manifesto.

Denny - told you fubar walked and quacked like the vet. welcome back man.
My point : because of the mess in Iraq, the leaders in Iran thought they could do what they want. I hope they are wrong. We'll see.
Again, the leader of opposition, Mousavi, became the 79th prime minister of Iran on 31 October 1981, because the Iranian parliament did not give Ali Akbar Velayati (put forward by president Khamenei) the vote of confidence.
So, your neocons "good guy/bad guy" theory makes me laugh.
Proper - did anyone say good guy bad guy? I didn't. Mousavi has been the head of their nuclear program too. Not good. Look at history though. Look at Yeltsin and Gorbachev. Both had manifests that were strong communist. Look at what they did. Does that make you laugh too?
Here is the thing. No one in '70's and '80's USSR was going to ascend to a position of any influence if they did not show consistent evidence of strong party loyalism. Obviously since the Mullah's select the slate of candidates in Iran (pretty fvcking far from a true democracy by the way) no body without strong loyalty is going to make it onto the ballot. stuff changes though.
Posted by: patrick on June 22, 2009 02:33 PMHello Patrick. I would very much like to see the mullahs and Ahmadinejad end up like ceaucescu. They shot an unarmed woman through her heart with a sniper rifle at a 100 yards. I wonder how those snipers fare when their target returns fire? Winds of change are blowing through the mideast, thanks to George Bush, the US military, and the idea of freedom. It is hard to be an isolationist when the world in on our computers instantly. Ronald Reagan ended communism in Europe, George Bush has attempted the same in the mideast. For a country that the libs claim is hated overseas, the world still emulates us. All you libs run to huffington and kos and get some stupid talking points on the kenyan slipping in the polls, his retarded health care scam, and taking his daughters to get ice cream while the world burned.

went to youtube yesterday to watch the Neda clip. horrific. koskids there blaming the cia.
I hope the cia is there. no evidence though that they are unless they are arming the protesters with rocks instead of AK-47s.
wish I knew for sure but I'd bet Bush had CIA and special ops in Iran. does not appear though that the Kenyan kept it up. Hope I'm wrong.

Posted by: Denny on June 22, 2009 06:22 PMI know. I felt the same mixed emotions when I watched Tienanmen square in 1989. Even though they are our enemy, you feel for the people getting shot. I marveled at tankman, the little bastard that stopped a line of tanks. I think it is the American in me that identifies with the struggle these people half. Or my irish-cherokee blood. LOL
Sorry about the double post on the links, I thought the first one was lost.

Posted by: Denny on June 22, 2009 06:34 PMSo Prosper, based on your comment directed at me above, you believe that the current, as well as previous Iranian leaders have been "elected" in fair elections and truly represent the people of that country. You truly are a fool and burying your head in the sand would be a wise thing to do. Pretty soon, you'll try to have us believe that the people of China, North Korea and Cuba prefer to live in the squalor that they do. You really are a very naive man. But that seems par for the course for you Europeans, both past and present.
Kitty Genovese comes to mind.
I like this version of Winds of Change as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZtAw1xOR8k
I was born in 1960, I remember the TV movie about Kitty. Some people refuse to act. Any loss of life kicks my ass. Especially Americans. But in this century is not America the whole world? I believe in the shining city on the hill. I believe people have a right to be free no matter where they are. My father was born in 1920, and his in 1880. I am a sappy throw back to the older generations in this country. And it hurts to see the world today. And the loss of the WWII/Korea generation. Watch Gran Torino. Clint has alot of my feelings in that movie.
