Line Of The Day

From a Willie Brown column. (scroll to the bottom) Got the link from Don Surber.

I got into a cab Friday, and the driver asked, "Was Michael Jackson a Republican?"

"I don't think so. Why?"

"He managed to knock both that two-timing South Carolina governor and that two-timing, Bible-thumping senator from Nevada off the front page. Republicans haven't gotten that much help from a black man since Sammy Davis Jr. hugged Richard Nixon."

Speaking of the pedophile's death overshadowing things, here is sumpin' Dick sent me about someone who died last week who was a real hero.

You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded, and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley ,11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8 - 1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter, and you look up to see an un-armed Huey, but it doesn't seem real, because no Medi-Vac markings are on it...

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in, and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire, to the Doctors and Nurses.

And, he kept coming back.... 13 more times..... And took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died last Wednesday at the age of 80, in Boise, ID . . . May God rest his soul.

I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we sure were told a whole bunch about some Hip-Hop coward beating his "girlfriend"; and the passing of Farah Fawcett & Michael Jackson.

Denny,

I hate to tell you but Ed didn't die last Wednesday.

From my informants, Ed "Too Tall" Freeman (MOH) passed away on August 21, 2008.

As a guy who got a dust off joy ride, my hat's off to those pilots and medics. Thanks, guys!

Denny, the hero who died last week was Kenneth Reusser, the most decorate Marine aviator of all time.
Dick sent you the wrong link. He was correct, just the wrong pilot.
Reusser flew Corsairs in WW2, and Hueys in Vietnam. this man of war was shot down five times. In one encounter his guns jammed so he chewed the other plane up with his propeller.
59 medals. Awesome! This man was another unsung hero of our forgotten wars. GHis total tally of missions seems to be in dispute. Whackopedia lists it as 213 while grunts.com has him at 263.

I just heard what they are going to do with Jackson's Body

Because he was 95% plastic, they are going to melt him down, and make a set of legos, so he can play with little boys forever

I heard that there was a course of study at a Cairo University that studied the plumbing technology of the ancient Egyptian royalty.

Those students were known as Pharaoh Faucet Majors.

But then, I might be mistaken.

I know Freeman died last year; don't care. Every time I read that, I still get chills.

One of those guys, you wonder if they had to get him a prescription jock to carry his balls.
