It seems to me that the dealership is taking it in the shorts (C4C payments not being made, can't sell a perfectly good used trade-in vehicle), the consumer is taking it in the shorts (all they get is $4,500 trade in, even if the car is worth a lot more), the US car industry is taking it in the shorts (8 out of 10 C4C trades are for foreign vehicles) and the taxpayer is taking it in the short (paying for this abomination). The only ones who don't appear to be losing in this crummy deal is the federal government. Gee, I wonder why!

What is really stupid about this program is that it takes a lot of perfectly good, affordable cars off the road. There are a lot of poor people who can't afford to buy a new car--even if you give them $4500 towards it! You are destroying good cars, and causing a "shortage" of cheap cars. What will happen next, any guesses? That's right, used car prices will go up, making it even harder for people of limited means to buy a car! But I guess it's ok, we'll just pass a government program to help these people out...just like we did to help them buy houses they couldn't afford.

Also, many of the "clunkers" are not being replaced with more "fuel-efficient" cars--many of the cars purchased are luxury or SUV models! So how "environmentally-friendly" is this bill really?

Thanks to the likes of libs/dims/socialist such as yourselves, this country is entering that stage that historians claim all great societies process through.
