Sorry Geezers

Sorry geezers. No Social Security COLA this year.

WASHINGTON -- Millions of older people face shrinking Social Security checks next year, the first time in a generation that payments would not rise.

While you're digesting that little piece of news, realize that our "public servants" in Congress will be giving themselves a pay raise just like they do every year. Also, they will not participate in their proposed health care system that they are desigining for us peons.

The trustees who oversee Social Security are projecting there won't be a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for the next two years. That hasn't happened since automatic increases were adopted in 1975.

Hey geezers! Why dontcha just die? You're bankrupting Medicare and Social Security so it's un-American for you to keep on living.

By law, Social Security benefits cannot go down. Nevertheless, monthly payments would drop for millions of people in the Medicare prescription drug program because the premiums, which often are deducted from Social Security payments, are scheduled to go up slightly.

So you geezers will actually take a Social Security cut. Just think of it as your patriotic duty. Hope and change and all of that bullshit.

"I will promise you, they count on that COLA," said Barbara Kennelly, a former Democratic congresswoman from Connecticut who now heads the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. "To some people, it might not be a big deal. But to seniors, especially with their health care costs, it is a big deal."

And geezers vote. They vote more than any other demographic in the country. When they see their smaller checks next year they're gonna be pissed. I'm a geezer and I'm gonna be pissed as well because with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts next year, I'm gonna see my taxes go up as will other geezers who have done well financially.

Advocates say older people still face higher prices because they spend a disproportionate amount of their income on health care, where costs rise faster than inflation. Many also have suffered from declining home values and shrinking stock portfolios just as they are relying on those assets for income.

Too bad geezers. Maybe you should have voted for the old guy. How's that hope and change working out for you?

Down the block from us live an elderly couple whose lawn featured an Obama campaign sign and subsequently a "We Support Single Payer Health" sign, which they later removed. It's hard to feel sorry for people who are just getting what they asked for.

Yeah, just how is that 'hope and change' thing working out....? Kinda sucks when you try to get MORE blood from a turnip and it just don't work! I'm betting this is just about the point where our founding fathers threw the tea in the harbor and said ENOUGH! Let's find this generations Thomas Jefferson and get on with what we need to do!

How soon before the state-run media starts reporting that pResident BOzo hates old people?

Posted by: thatjerryguy on August 24, 2009 04:03 PM

But don't you worry. Congress will gladly accept their COLA next year.

Posted by: Paul on August 24, 2009 04:15 PM

Not only will they take the COLA (gee, folks, it's automatic. There was nothing we could do about it.), but they think they're entitled to eight jet airplanes to travel around in. But they can't afford to absorb the extra $2 a month to cover the bump in the drug benefit. We REALLY need to clean house - both houses!

I've often wondered why Bush's adjustment to the tax rates was called a "cut." That suggests there was some sort of correct level of taxation that was being "cut." Income taxes have gone up and down since they were first introduced by Satan. The Democrats are just (as usual) twisting language for their own benefit. It would be more accurate to call what they are doing RAISING taxes, but the media happily goes along with calling it "rescinding the Bush tax cuts."

I like what Ross Perot said back in his campaign day when he was running. When asked how he would implement change? (I'm going by memory here, but pretty close I think) Perot said we the average Americans put these politicians there in their positions. They work for us, and by God we can take them out as well.

I DON'T LIKE TO LINGER ON THESE POLITICAL ISSUES (PISSES ME OFF TOO MUCH) Haven't had anything to drink for three days, but I think I will be heading down to the store shortly.

1) Politicians should all be forced to take a pay cut (HEALTHY ONE)

2) Yes, they should be treated under the same medical coverage as the average citizen whoever that may be that participates in Obamacare Afterall they are suppose to be representing us. (what better way to experience first hand how the system works) They could learn from it. THAT SHOULD BE FORCED UPON THEM (THEIR WIVES AND CHILDREN INCLUDED)

3) I don't think a single politician should get a pension if they don't serve for at least 20 years like those who have been in the military. IF THEY DON'T GET RE-ELECTED AFTER 2,4 OR 6 YRS. TOUGH SHIT, NO PENSION !!

4) No first class flights either.

5) I wonder how that "open checkbook" bullshit is going on these days. Remember, some years back when the politicians and their wives were writing checks with no thought what so ever about what account it was coming from.

6) They still flying their buddies and girlfriends around "junkets" for golf and skiing etc.?

I GOT TO LEAVE....I DO HAVE HYPER TENSION

The Social Security program robs people of money they should be saving during their most productive years and gives it to cronies of whoever is in power. The vaunted "Trust Fund" that politicians piously swear they are protecting consists of a file cabinet full of government IOUs (which, since they are held by the government, is effectively as valuable as having an IOU to yourself). So citizens are deliberately steered toward dependency in their vulnerable years...dependency on a program that we know will go broke. And the punch line is that anyone who tries to do anything about this evil state of affairs and save us from catastrophe is branded a malicious menace to society and run out of town. What the hell is wrong with us?

My husband and I went to see a financial advisor last week and he told us that in 2017 the Social Security fund will be paying out more than it will take in and is estimated to be exhausted by 2046 (I think that's the date). This is on the front page of the Social Security statement that is sent to us. I never bothered to read it. Another reason that I'm pissed that I'm forced to pay into it in the first place. If I had been allowed to keep my own gaddamned money in the first place, I could've put it into my own account or even into an IRA. See, I'm more responsible than the government when it comes to money. Especially MY money.

Phthaloblu - Got news for you. Social Security is already broke. The politicians of both parties have spent all of the money. All that is in the "trust fund" is IOU's from the gummint.

Posted by: Denny on August 24, 2009 10:14 PM

Denny, yeah I know that, but it was interesting what was written in the statement. My husband has a friend that was receiving his father's SS after his father died. ???? There wasn't anything wrong with this guy; he was young, strong and perfectly capable of working, but instead spent the last 30 years in the academic bubble of upper education. Maybe if they didn't let leaches like him dip into it, there'd still be some left. Yeah, him and all the idiots in CONgress, too. *sigh*

THE JOB - URINE TEST
(Whoever wrote this one deserves a HUGE pat on the back!)

Like most folks in this country, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, in my case, I am required to pass a random urine test (with which I have no problem).

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

So, here is my question: Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ass doing drugs, while I work.

Can you imagine how much money each state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'.

Now you know why President O'Dumbo dropped the plan to pull the plug on grandma. Alternate plan is to starve grandma to death. Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you don't. I love watching businesses go bust who's owners supported O'Dumbo and I tell them so. Guess he didn't pay they're mortage or put gas in their car. BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Few Americans have figured out that a reduction in withholding rates is not a tax cut. They will get a shock on Apr 15 when they have to caugh up the money the IRS didn't withhold.

Easier said than done.

I've been collecting Social security for years now. Every January I get a small, but welcome, raise in my monthly stipens.

I knew when I signed up the COLA clause was a 2-way street depending on the inflation/deflation rate. It's the government's playing field so they make the rules. Besides I've taken out far more than I put in during my working career so I guess anthing I get now is a bonus.

So this year I take a hit while congress gets the big bucks. Life sucks then you die.

Sure makes that End of Life Counselling plan the Dear Leader is pushing look better and better.

PS: Just heard Bernie Medoff has terminal pancreatic cancer. I sure hope he is given compassionate release from his North Carolina counrty club so he can get back to his New York 5th Ave. apartment and croke in the arms of his beloved fraulein?

My employer made me an offer for early retirement about 5 years ago. Since I've been workin' part-time for the last 25 years and I like what I do, I declined. Turns out that for every year that I've worked since then my benefit will be increased by $60-70 a month. My TSP (read 401k) is doin' pretty good, and with that, my retirement check and Momma's Roth IRA (which has been fully funded by my earnings, as she hasn't been working outside the home) I'm hoping I won't have to even apply for Geezer/Geezerette Welfare.
Would I like to've had what they've taken from my earnings all these years so I could've invested it myself? Sure! But I'd also like to get back all my tax money they spent on pork and other wasteful things. What's been pi$$ed away by the dot-gov is gone, so I'll just have to say I'll be tryin' to get by on what I've made and haven't spent foolishly.
Oh, yeah, I also have 243 bucks a month in VA diasbility, which has always been more than enough to insure my cars and bikes.
Life could be worse. I could live in Canada or France. ;^)

Geezer`s under the Bus......

Yeah, there are a lot of stupid Geeser`s who voted for Obama ...after that evil Bushhitler anything was better....at least that is what I heard during the campaign. Funny I do not hear that so much now.

When the message gets out about the lack of any increase in Social Security for the next two years , the whining should be enormous. If it is not ....you can be sure major cut`s in existing benefits will be on the table.

The Messiah ....screw everybody who supported him, voted for him or did not vote to teach GWB a lesson. We get what we vote for ...we are all so screwed at least for the next 3 &1/2 year`s. The only bright spot is I get to point a finger at all those who fit the foregoing & say "I told you so!" Hope & Change ....Bullshit!

Posted by: dudley1 on August 25, 2009 12:31 PM

So this is the first time this has ever happened, right?

Well, people asked for change.

They just got it.
