The Trip Down

Here I am in beautiful Bonaire. I had to get up at 4:15 AM. Ugh! I always take MARTA down to the airport on my dive trips. Right before downtown a panhandler came on the train and started hitting us up for money. Said he hadn't eaten anything since yesterday morning. None of us heartless bastards gave him anything. I was wondering why if he didn't have any money for food how he could afford the two bucks to ride MARTA? Slaps my head. What am I thinking? He prolly jumped the gates.

I was the first one at the airport. I could have slept another half hour. Bert told everyone to be there by 6:30. Parnell, as he does every year, showed up at 8:00. One of the upside of being a crip is cutting the security line so we can get down to the gate fairly quickly.

By the time we started the preboard (crips get on first) I looked outside and noticed it was raining buckets. There goes our chance for an on time departure. Plus they held the plane for three people who were late. One of them made it. Two of them didn't. This flight only runs on Saturday. The two who missed the flight were SOL.

Because of the rain, departures were spaced more than normal. We were an hour late taking off. We made decent time. The staff at the airport in Bonaire were really on the ball. Theyn took us crips to the front of the passport control line. Another new thing was they had a buss with a wheelchair lift to take us to the resort.

This year, there are only three of us in chairs: Cindy, a C3/C4 quad (the highest spinal cord injured person Bert has ever gone diving with.) who has been on the previous two trips we made to Bonaire. Parnell, the wight lifter who won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics, who goes with us every year; and our hero, me.

The wifi isn't any better here than it was last year. I have to go to the lobby to get on the net. I'm typing this offline and will post when I drag my crippled ass up to the lobby.

Looking forward to tomorrow when we can jump into the water!

Thanks for the report. I guess a wheelchair is like a cane. Since I use one, there's always someone to open a door, give me a seat, or help me across a street. At first, I didn't know how to take it. Now I expect it!!!!

Hope things go well tomorrow.

The new PC rules on things really have me flummoxed. Do I offer a hand to a person in a chair, on crutches, whatever ? Or is that an affront to his/her ability, & am I making a HUGE Foo-Paw by even offering...I was brought up to believe that those of us who had been blessed w/"normal" ability had an obligation to look after those who weren't so blessed...And my heart TRULY goes out to those who are, uhm, "crippled"...W/my bad knee, I'm a LITTLE that way myself...I walk slow, w/a slight limp, & I've had cars full of teenagers speed up & act like they would hit the fat old crip when I was crossing in front of them...Jackasses...

Is it windy on Bonaire? The closest I have been is Aruba, and it was windy - lots of shipwrecks to dive, maybe because ships ran aground due to the wind?! Looks like your weather is going to be beautiful all week. Enjoy, I'm jealous!

Much as we enjoy your blogging, we also know that the first priority of a SRF is to have a good time, so we'll understand if the posts are few and far between. Hope you don't get too bad a sunburn, but at least it'll turn to tan, so when you get back to Georgia you'll fit right in with all the po' folks who're rusting in that rain you left behind.

All hell's broke loose here, Denny. It never stopped raining, flash flooding in several counties.

Posted by: fubar on September 21, 2009 07:38 AM

No flooding up here in NE Tenn, but it HAS been one of the "soggiest" Septembers in memory...Damn grass looks like it does in April...Grrrrr!

I just thought of a cool joke: How many quadriplelgics does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Hint: The answer is the same for paraplegics.

Posted by: Cliff on September 21, 2009 04:46 PM

You'll never guess the answer.

How many quadriplegics (or paraplegics) does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Answer: It all depends.

Kinda subtle, so I'll be happy to explain it to the teabaggers. (I'm so stupid that I never realized that Cartman on South Park was the original teabagger. THAT was too subtle for me.)

Posted by: Cliff on September 21, 2009 04:54 PM

Denny,

If a teabagger goes scuba diving, does he leave his tin-foil hat on the boat or does he wear it into the water? If he wears it into the water, does he gorilla glue it to his head or does he constantly monkey around with it in the water? Can he, I should first have said, pick up a signal underwater? If not, does that make him paranoid?

Let's not ignore the outrageous mission statement of this blog, bad taste and political incorrectness (by which we apparently mean "political" in the broadest social sense).

I envy the bathotic, the polymorphous perversity, the womb-like sensation of scuba diving; the momentary escape from the pervasive gravity which drags us of little strength down, where we never wished to go, but where we live everyday (except in Bonaire for an hour at a time).

Posted by: Cliff on September 22, 2009 02:27 PM

Cliff, the only thing here outrageous is you. Now piss off and go back to kos, you left wing liberal troll faggot.

This tool is probably typing with a thesaurus right next to his keyboard trying to figure out which impractical word he's going to be typing next to try to get his lame point across. I'm and excellent judge of character and from the few posts droppings he's already left, he had the shit bit out of him in school, still has his mommy iron his clothes, and was told that Obama was building an ark and he jumped right on board. Tool is the best word to describe losers like this. He/she/it digs its own grave just by opening its mouth, or in this case, keyboard.

Cliff......

I see by your exchange of dialogue with Fubar, delusion has the better of your thought process. Let me clear this matter with you ...You will be better for it.Well maybe!

First.....
Tinfoil hat`s are to protect the liberal thought processes of the leftwing Liberal Socialist`s & Environmentalists from cosmic radiation which is flooding the atmosphere due to the big ozone hole in the upper atmosphere caused by cow fart`s according to Al Gore.
Second .......
Pay attention on this one......Far too many Liberal`s are wearing the wrong type of foil hats.....Your home made or cheaply mass produced hat`s which they sell at Acorn meeting`s & Environmentalist swap meet`s are made from aluminum foil not "genuine" tin foil & have no protective properties leading to Liberal Dimentia. This might be your problem, if you are forgetting the word`s to "Kum Bai Ya" ...It is a virtual certainty.Look at Hillary Clinton who has lost so much memory her standard answer`s to any question are "I do not know, I Have no recollection & I do not remember".
Third......
This is also important ....On your next trip to the moon with the rest of the raving moonbats....wear a lead foil hat! If you are afraid of losing it while in flight ...stuff it where the sun don`t shine....Where do you think the term "Get the lead out of your Ass " came from , the lead foil hat is needed when attempting moon landing`s.At least that is what Cindy Sheehan say`s.
Fourth ......
Aluminum foil hats are used to provide a clean recepticle for refreshment`s while overseas especially in Poland where they think a "Sanitary belt" is a shot of Vodka in a clean glass & clean glass wear is hard to find especially when under the influence of alcohol & you lose your inhibition`s regarding cleanliness.Oh & do not forget the immortal word`s of "Floater" Ted Kennedy who alway`s said "I`ll drink to that"...He kept about a roll of aluminum foil in his car for emergencies, he took his eyes off the road while making a cup when he drove off the Chappaquidick bridge..
Lastly....
Denny`s mission statement or rule`s of engagement for this website are working just fine....if you do not like them ...Too Bad, I see more humor at your expense on the immediate horizon. Go with the flow or just go. There now don`t you feel better already.

Posted by: dudley1 on September 22, 2009 03:37 PM

Have a great trip Denny!

Posted by: Don on September 22, 2009 04:46 PM

This is great! I could not have dreamed for a better response and I'm looking forward to more and better sputnik from the edge...hopefully from some high school graduates also. (If anyone thinks I incorrectly used the word "outrageous," look it up in a dictionary...it rhymes with "bad taste and politically incorrect.")

Besides, I love Denny's mission statement as much as I've loved and known Denny almost 40 years. (I even flew to his side within 24 hours of his injury. And I've never judged him.) I'm just trying to get into the swing of things here, as far as bad taste and poltical incorrectness goes (but mostly without name calling and hate mongering). Apparently some people are thick-headed enough to give it, but too thin-skinned to take it. Too bad.

But if anyone thinks I'm beating up on them, rest assured that a liberal is not swinging the bat. A liberal? Now that comes close to hurting the feelings of someone that carries a copy of the Constitution everywhere and has a current Libertarian Party membership card in his wallet (member since 1992) and was a voting delegate on the floor of the Libertarian Party presidential nominating convention in Chicago in 1992. (If the CNN tapes still exist, I stood right before the lectern, often at the head of the Illinois delegation...and ate dinner twice at the candidates' table). Cynical, yes. Liberal, no.

Now what's your real beef with me? In English, this time.

Posted by: Cliff on September 22, 2009 05:46 PM

Ok, I am going to step out of the closet. If any of you fellas like a rim job, just look me up, and my bung hole is always available to any who want it. Oh yea, the standard BJ is always on tap, I charge a bit for humming tho.

Posted by: Cliff on September 22, 2009 07:12 PM

Nice try, but weak! Is that the best you have?

Posted by: Cliff on September 22, 2009 07:44 PM

Cliff....
Oh! ye of superior intellectual capacity......you have committed Liberal sin Number 1 ...The attempt to impress us with your self proclaimed superior intelligence. Several points to your diatribe, you misspelled political & then there is eating at the candidates table ....BJ`s don`t count.

Do not misunderstand , we here can all give or take . Legitimate differance can be debated, Condescension will be ridiculed & leftwing nonsense will be parodied.
As for your Libertarian credentials.....your mother must be impressed. If true , you picked a stupid way to introduce them.If they be BS, well we deal with politically correct Liberal`s all the time.
As for me ...I am a conservative , a suffering member of the RNC & ready to slay the Liberal dragon whenever one chooses to let it loose on the website.
As for cynical...Like being independent, a fairy tale as when the chips are down they always vote liberal. Cynical usually means an inability to voice a truthful point of view.
I do not have any real beef with you but prefer people who postulate from their legitimate feelings or belief`s rather then an affected demeanor. We have enough of those phonies who have been posting here on & off for many year`s.

Posted by: dudley1 on September 22, 2009 08:13 PM

Denny,

Been looking at the recent devastation in Atlanta and hope that all of it was well away from your home and that the weather, in Atlanta or there, has no effect on your vacation. The city is building a new Y here; I'm looking forward to it. It's not salt water, but it's better than gravity.

Posted by: Cliff on September 22, 2009 08:25 PM

"Now what's your real beef with me? In English, this time.'

Why do you give as your e-mail address a woman's who runs a museum in Marietta?

With comments like this "Kinda subtle, so I'll be happy to explain it to the teabaggers. (I'm so stupid that I never realized that Cartman on South Park was the original teabagger. THAT was too subtle for me.)"

what do you expect, a medal? If you have known Denny since Vietnam, why are you such an asshole?

Posted by: fubar on September 22, 2009 08:29 PM

I pretend no intellectual or any other kind of superiority with anyone. My question is, what makes you think that I'm insulting you or even talking about you? I've addressed no one by name. Are you projecting or what?

I have libertarian credentials that should defend me from any accusations of being liberal. Besides that, so what? And equating cynicism with liberalism is ridiculous.

(I have never accused anyone of mispelling words. Perhaps you should spellcheck your own posts.)

You say we here can all give and take. I don't believe it. And later on you say that we cannot all give and take (the "phonies," the ones that don't agree with you, I guess).

I'm independent. Both Republicans and Democrats (and even Libertarians sometimes) want my freedom in some way. I wish that all Americans were more independent.

Anyway, back to being rude and politically incorrect...I'm sorry you find that Denny's blog is such a very one-way and narrow street.

Posted by: Cliff on September 22, 2009 09:06 PM

a poor man's DanS?

Posted by: patrick on September 22, 2009 09:46 PM

Cliff....
I am not the one who postured being of superior intellect....referance "hopefully from some high school graduates also". Your words , not mine & seems to reek of distain.
My equation of cynicism was with Independents not liberalism & was only to show a belief that Independents & Cynics are both non existant.
Give & Take....Sorry if you do not recognize the difference between give & take as opposed to those who only post here to deride a conservative viewpoint, even a libertarian one with false information or statements. When I state Phonies this is my meaning.
Spellcheck....Yes I make mistakes but then I do not assume a superior position either. It was an attempt to let the air out of your assumed superior attitude. Perhap`s I misjudged your intent ...if so my bad.
Again the concept of Independent.... I do not think this is true for you as most of what people associate with being of Independent thought or ideals is found within traditional Republican position or values not Democratic or a weak third party. The fact there is a division in the Republican Party between conservative thought or belief & eastern closet liberalism is something all like minded conservatives should work together on to bring reformation to the Republican Party. The truth of the statement" together we stand or divided we fall" is all to true & is the reason we have a useless Socialist like Obama in the White House.
Anyway I think GOC in Atlanta is populated by many who are Conservative in political thought even some like Denny & you who believe themselves to be Libertarian. Then there are those who leap in from time to time to post an opposing viewpoint but display a fundamentsl lack of real comprehension. We, as you must have noticed if you really be the friend of Denny you claim have a minority group of Trolls or are elitist Liberal`s who provide comic relief.
So lets try this again from a new beginning & see how thing`s go going forward.

Posted by: dudley1 on September 22, 2009 10:00 PM

Dudley, your too quick with the wiping the slate clean on this tool. Read the first several quotes this idiot (I'll take the superior high road here)posted here. He/she/it was just itching for a fight, argument, debate, whatever. He/she/it could argue that we fell for it, but that is what those of us of the conservative and intelligent persuasion do, we stand up for what we believe and fight for the causes we feel are just. For this asshat to come here, (while Denny's not here to moderate) and start throwing these zingers to see what kind of response he'd get was something a moronic lib/dim/socialist would do, so pardon the confusion idiot. Anyway, until he proves otherwise (like his was some sort of perverse joke), there's no going forward, as morons can't move in that direction.

Sounds a lot like that faggot Jay Bookman. He is the liberal censor monkey with a blog at the ajc. He uses about five aliases to get everyone worked up, then he censors the comments. His site is http://blogs.ajc.com/jay-bookman-blog/
While he censors your posts, he has others place tracking cookies in your browser. This has already been reported to the FBI.

If that guy really is a friend of Denny's, I'm very surprised.

Posted by: Claudia on September 23, 2009 12:22 AM

Ray......

Maybe I am an Idealist but we shall see. One point I meant to make is my take on being a Libertarian. This is in my opinion is the refuge of a frustrated conservative who has come to the conclusion the Republican Party has lost it`s way.

It is a lot like becoming a lifeguard at a pool which is closed for the season. Nothing is going to happen & no one is going to be there to make your choice a success. The Libertarian Party in this sense is like the green party or any of the other splinter groups, ineffectual, irrelevant & of no impact to the political scene. The better choice is to recognize the shortcoming`s within the Republican party & to work within the framework to bring it into line with traditional thought.
I think the Republican Party has a golden opportunity to make political gains in the next election....the problem is eastern liberals have too much influence & Michael Steele is not the chairman to make change happen. However to run off & become a member of some splinter group who meets in a phone booth is not the answer if you want change.

Posted by: dudley1 on September 23, 2009 08:06 AM

I agree Dudley, In theory, the Libertarian party is a good thing (except for their position on National Security, which they pretty much don't have). However, anyone with half a lick of sense knows there's not enough followers, nor would it be practical or likely to convert enough followers, to a third party. So what the Republican party should do is "woo" some of the members of that party and others that think along similiar lines, and have them join up with this new "conservative moment". We need another "contract with America" type of awakening, and I'm all for pulling Trent Lott, Gingrich, etc. out of the wings to help us do this. And to the ultra right that think that their baggage is "too" much, fuck you. You folks are just as responsible for where we are now as the libs/dims/socialists. Newflash......There ain't no such thing as the perfect candidate, so except that and find the one that most closely resembles your philosophies and go with him/her.

Posted by: Ray on September 23, 2009 09:33 AM

Ray.....

The problem is as long as the Eastern Liberal Republicans or Rino`s have any say so , they will fight tool & nail to keep the Conservative`s out of any real power positions even though it has been proven this is what the faithful want & will support. Most of these Phonies are really Democrat`s in disguise.
A perfect example of a Liberal Eastern Republican is Arlen Specter who finally jumped back to the Democratic party when it was obvious the Republican base here in Pennsylvania had enough of his me too approach to Democratic ideas.
When I read a poll recently taken by Rasmussen as to what the American public thinks & want` s .....The first message is they are pissed off with the Federal Government & believe neither Party fairly represent`s the wish of the people.
The second message is when what they want is polled....the result is lower taxes , lower spending, less Government intrusion into the peoples business, a strong military, secure border`s with deportation of the illegal immigrant`s & a commitment to serve the American people & American Interest`s , all Core Republican Principle`s which the Republican Party leadership pays lip service to & the Democrat`s ignore while actively trying to convert this country to a Socialist State.
The vast majority of the people polled were of the opinion the Republican Party was best suited to provide this & felt the Democratic Party was too Liberal to serve America`s interest`s.
The answer is a true Conservative Republican
Party committed to a return to basic` s & the principles this country was founded on.Unfortunately Michael Steele is in the left pocket of the Eastern Republican Establishment. This was proven when he lamented the defection of Arlen Specter who made a career out of stabbing Republican`s in the back & sucking up to Liberal Democrats.

"A McClatchy newspapers' journalist who witnessed the battle reported that a team of Marine trainers made repeated appeals for air and artillery support after being pinned down by insurgents in the village of Ganjgal in eastern Kunar province.

The U.S. troops had to wait more than an hour for attack helicopters to come to their aid and their appeal for artillery fire was rejected, with commanders citing new rules designed to avoid civilian casualties, the report said. "
