This goes along with a Washington Post article (no link because of registration) that I read in the Atlanta Urinal and Constipation. It essentially says that Americans are buying bullets faster than factories can make them. This has been going on ever since Jug Hussein Ears was elected. From the article:
In the past 12 months, gun shops sold enough bullets to give every American 38 of them.
Is that all? Buy baby, buy!
I went to Wal*Mart a few days ago to but some oil. I cruised by the locked ammo display case.
They had one -1- , box of 9mm. Hardball, not even a single box of silvertips or any other hollowpoint round.
There were plenty of shotgun shells.
Bill-
Same thing at the WalMart in my area. Not that I buy ammo. from them but I always check it out and there were maybe a couple boxes of .38 special and the rest was bare. I've been stockpiling ammo. for a few years now and I have a nice cache stowed away in my closet for when the time comes...
I have 400 rounds of 9mm in stock. Things are going to worse before they get better.
I think that people are seeing the error of their Hope&change mentality.
I bought the Ruger LCP a couple of months back (It's my little Elsie Pea).
Try buying ammo for a .380 That is without a doubt the ammo of the masses. Way too hard to come by.
You can get .45 and .357 but 9mm is hard to come by or the price is outrageous.
I think part of it is the old supply and demand LAW, in order to raise prices. I don't even go to the practice range anymore.
Given the recession and no job, it hurts to fire off 35 cents every time you pull the trigger.
Posted by: Willie on November 4, 2009 03:33 PM38 rounds per person? I am way the F**k over MY quota.
Actually I have spent more on firearms this year than any other. Two Glocks, an LCP, and an AR15 that I put together last night.
Copious ammounts of ammo as well!
Posted by: Brad on November 4, 2009 03:40 PMMY GOD! In this picture he looks like a tanned Don Knotts!
Posted by: Harry on November 4, 2009 03:48 PMI've been buying too. The answer of the Calif. legislature is to criminalize ammo buyers. No more out-of-state sales. In-store sales must be fingerprinted and recorded. Harass, harass, harass. Screw it. In the future, I'll go to Vegas.
It's sort of comedic, the way the anti-gun folks have spurred gun sales. But the underlying note is a chilling one. We sense something bad is coming. The borrowing can't continue. The controls are ever-more invasive. Somethings got to give. We don't know where or what, but we're uncomfortable. We take a small amount of comfort in knowing that, if civil controls fail, we're armed.
Having a gun is no panacea. There are always people out there with bigger guns, and more of them. A gun in my hand doesn't mean I can't be killed. But it does mean I can't be enslaved. They can take my life but not my humanity.
These are disturbing thoughts to be harboring in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Our political leadership will say I've become another dangerous right-wing kook. Is it true? It's a question I ask of myself. Have I moved into crazy territory? Or am I just telling it like it is?
In any case, I'm not a danger to anyone. Not planning on launching a revolution. I'm just getting on with my stupid life. But I sleep better knowing that if anything comes after me, I've got the right tool to do what must be done.
Posted by: TalkinHorse on November 4, 2009 04:04 PMStockpiling is an understatement. In my small part of the world...no handgun or rifle cartridges at all (very few), except for some .22 here and there. No shot-shells below 8. The WalMart is bare, and has been since the election. The employees know (maybe) when a stocking truck arrives...they call their friends, and all the ammo is gone by morning...and they're not getting much. The local WalMart says they have a limit on how many boxes they can sell to a single customer...exactly why friends show up in packs. The Mom and Pop's can't keep anything in stock. The Mom and Pop gun ranges won't sell (rent) to anyone not using their range, and they keep the brass. The prices for reloading supplies have also gone through the roof. The other day, I drove 150 miles round trip for 1,000 rounds of .45.
I don't think Bobo can take the guns, but he can make ammunition so scarce and costly, that a gun becomes nothing more than a expensive rock.
In my county, the applications for Concealed Carry Handgun permits are up 250% YTD...not that it matters, but half of 'em are women.
Buy what you can, when you can, and while you can.
Posted by: Yabu on November 4, 2009 04:12 PMHah ! You fellers oughta try keepin' a Class-3 Uzi happy 'n' fed in these Perilous Times...Or 4 FALS, an HK-91, M-1A1, AR-10, AR-15, Mini-14....Or a REAL Shytekicker like a S & W Model 500...Mbwahahahaha...
Posted by: Sandy G. on November 4, 2009 04:23 PMI'm seeing more supply, but the price has gone way up on most things. Ouch!
The last time I bought 7.62x39 I paid $79/1000 delivered. The good old days are gone.
Having read the comments, I feel a little better. There is a shortage of ammunition in Australia, as well as some firearms ("the manufacturer's are selling all their stock to the Americans"). All I want to do is shoot paper targets, and from 1/2 way around the world some bloke messes up the supply of ammo. Is this an example of the chaos theory? (butterfly in Peking flaps its wings, etc)
Posted by: Thomas the Tout on November 4, 2009 05:47 PMMe and GuyK went into Hinesville Georgia this morning. We only found a few boxes of 38 spl. We purchased them. Wally World was sold out of everything, hunting season is open in Coastal Georgia.

Posted by: Scrapiron on November 4, 2009 06:06 PMLast time I went up to see Mother (she's 89 and housebound), I mentioned that gun & ammo sales have been brisk ever since last November. Her response: "I can't believe nobody's shot that sonofabitch yet. Whatinhell are they waitin for?"
'Course I remember her sayin the same thing 'bout Johnson, Nixon, Carter, and Clinton, so . . . . .
Posted by: Ron on November 4, 2009 06:58 PMWillie and Brad - how do you like that LCP? a friend of mine who just got her CHL is thinking of getting one?
I am way way waaaaaaayyy under ammo'd 300 rounds of sw .40 and about 2 boxes of buckshot.
thinking of splurging on a kimber .45
Posted by: patrick on November 4, 2009 11:00 PMWell, at least he stimulated PART of the economy. Perhaps americans should all buy stock in ammunition/gun companies.

AMEN, Scrapiron. I don't wanna see it, but I'm well prepared for it...
Posted by: CharlieDelta on November 5, 2009 04:18 AMAmmunition & Reloading supplies......
I have amassed a considerable ammo supply over the years for all of my weapons along with Reloading equipment to produce reloads for them when store shelves are empty. It has alway`s been a running joke of my shooting friends that old Dudley1 must think there is a revolution coming.
I have a large stock of powder, primers & bullets ....when people come to our shoots & bitch the gun shop`s are rationing primer`s to a pack of 100,I smile. When they ask if I will sell them some, I say no. They don`t laugh anymore, now they see why I stockpile.
Posted by: dudley1 on November 5, 2009 08:59 AMI don't work for them, but I see that Georgia Arms has more .30 carbine in stock. I guess I'll have to order another 1000 rounds or so! I like the way they call a can of ammo "canned heat!"
I would suggest everyone should get involved with your local militia unit, or else start one. If TSHTF, there will be more safety in numbers. I am involved with my local militia. We're going out this Saturday to shoot some leftover pumpkins. :-)

Posted by: chicopanther on November 5, 2009 10:10 AMI LOVE readin' about others maintaining at least a bare minimum of guns & ammo, but I almost get a thrill runnin' up my leg when somebody like Sandy lists his toys. Hey, Sandy, sounds almost as though there's nothin' left for Santa to bring you this Xmas.
Help me out here, folks. If abortion is a right that's not listed anywhere in the US Constitution but our dotGov has paid for the procedure, wouldn't it stand to reason that since the 2A is right there in black & white, the same dotGov has the duty to provide us with arms (and ammo) commensurate with what's provided to our own troops and/or foreign governments? Then again, based on past experience, if all they're gonna gimme is one of them-there plastic Fisher-Price lookin' M-16's I just may pass. Actually, my highest qualifying score was Machine Gun, so I guess Uncle should buy me a .50, huh?
Still kickin' myself for not snappin' up the 2 M-60s that the guy had when I had my Uzi converted in '87...$7K for BOTH...One was "As new", the other was still "In Cosmoline"...Now, ONE M-60, IF you can find it, would set you back, what, $15-20K or so ?!? Or the GENUINE "newish" Belgian FAL w/20 clips & 200 rounds of Federal that I passed up in 1989 because at $700 for the whole mess, it was "Too much" ? Kick, kick...Or the brand-new Colt AR-15A2 HBAR "Green Label" that had been massaged by the Custom Shop, had a Zero Halliburton case, scope, etc, etc, for $1750 about 15 years ago...Kick, kick...Or more correctly, "Bwahhh, bwahh..." There are many surplus weapons on the market with which one can build a respectable home arsenal of democracy. I don`t know what your State or local regulations are but advise you collect what you need now before TSHTF or some Liberal Dickwad tries to change your constitutional right`s.
One handgun I would suggest is the Russian TT33 Tokarev in 7.62x39 ....Why? there are millions of them out there which have been made in Russia,Poland, Romania , China Etc . It is a semiauto which sell`s for about $200.00. The Russian version is usually WW2 surplus while the East European ones are usually from reserve stockpile`s & in excellent condition. A big plus is Romanian ammo is available from a number of sources at a cost of $ 112.00 to $140.00 for 1226 round`s. Cheap to shoot , easy to disassemble/maintain & it is a powerful pistol somewhere between a 40SW & 45 auto.
I have a Russian model & have put probably 5000 round`s thru it....killed a whole bunch of beer can`s & a crate of cabbage with it among other things. I am buying a Romanian version after seeing one that a shooting buddy friend has for reserve stock.
My Dad just gave me about 1000 rounds of 9mm that he found in my great aunt's house. Good excuse to buy something in 9mm. Any suggestions?
Posted by: woodchuck on November 5, 2009 07:28 PMwoodchuck-
The only suggestion I have is to sell that 9mm euro-sissy round and buy something that starts with a "4".
Dudley 1- seein' as how I'm stuck here in Hippiefornia, the care and feeding of boomsticks is an art. Did I enjoy rippin' through a full magazine faster than a sneeze, with an M-16, and Uncle Sam was payin'? Sure! And our M14's had a full-auto switch. Almost like an M-60. There was a guy in my squad who came up with a Thompson, but I never got to fire that. Lots of toys that'd be fun, but if things get bad, I can walk around with my Beretta Model 70S in my pocket and who's gonna know? I'm thinkin' that if it gets up close and personal I'd rather nobody know I even have something 'til it's too late for 'em. And at that range I'll trust a few rounds of .22lr, 'cause I know that I'll shoot if I think it's necessary, and 7-8 rounds around the eye sockets will do the job. I think I still have the will to pull the trigger.
And no, the Beretta isn't the only thing I have, but I ain't expecting to face any human wave attacks so I doubt I'll need to spray 'n' pray. Of course, if you had an early model AR-7 that you didn't like any more, you could feel free to ship it to me. Love to plink with .22lr.
I guess the ultimate in bein' ready would be a Sherman, but that'd be a little hard on my driveway.
BTW, I still remember that my last M-14's serial # was 1128744. I guess it's true that some things a guy never forgets.
Inbredredneck......
A few thing`s I forgot to mention .........the TT Tokarev is based on the Colt 45, developed in the 20`s in the Soviet Union , it was designed so Soviet Conscript`s could readily service & maintain the weapon. As I posted , it is a powerful weapon & has served various armies & nation`s for almost as long as the Colt 45 & is still in production in a number of countries.
Posted by: dudley1 on November 6, 2009 11:05 AMIs this a perfect example of socialism creating shortages?
Or as they said in the old country, before time of revolution;"The shortages will be divided among the peasants."
