It's cloudy out. Haven't seen the sun for a few days. I don't really feel like writing anything. Fortunately, I've got Ron to fill in for days like today.
As far back as I can remember, people have been grumbling that everybody complains about the weather but nobody does anything about it. Seems to me that's precisely what's wrong with government today: it's fatally flawed and becoming more dangerous by the day, but nobody's trying to fix it.Examples abound to show us what happens when government gets too complex or too corrupt or too big for its britches, too quick to interfere in the business of the individual states or counties or cities, or individuals. We have histories of empires and kingdoms and republics and socialism and fascism and juntas and communism to show us what's good and what's bad about government, but we're either too stupid or too lazy to read the handwriting on the wall.
We've allowed our government to grow from a lean, loyal, efficient servant to a ravenous self-feeding parasite which is beginning to choke the life out of the very system that feeds it. The people who live here, in the meantime (both legally and illegally), are becoming more concerned with what they can get from the government in aid and benefits and relief than what they might earn through honest work.
The leader of our government today is clearly more interested in building and preserving his political legacy than in dealing with crucial issues that threaten the nation's economic health and physical security. He's more concerned about campaigning for his own future than for correcting problems for the country's future. His instinctive approach to every problem is to threaten and belittle those who disagree with his policies but offer no more than rhetoric and doubletalk where realistic solutions are needed.
In fact, instead of giving us ethical, intelligent, decisive leadership, our last three CEOs can be summed up in three words: corrupt, inept, and unprepped, each word applying to all three in one way or another.
Why did the mighty Roman empire fall? What led to the twilight of that Great British empire upon which the sun never set? And what will bring about the dismantling of the richest, greatest, most generous superpower the world has ever known? Oh, lots of factors. Here's a short list to consider:
Abandonment of traditional values
Contempt for cultural continuity
Total emphasis on rights of the accused at victims' expense
Political correctness replacing genuine respect and common decency
Disposal of all laws and regulations governing immorality and aberrant behavior
Scorn for time-honored moral virtues and ethical practices
Widespread approval of feminization of boys and men
Urgency for passing micromanagement legislation while failing to use laws already in place
Double standards for politicians and cronies
Obscene wastes of taxpayer money on boondoggles and pork
Boldfaced lies and equivocations during election campaigns
Welfare fraud
MediCare fraud
MedicAid fraud
Voter fraud
Social Security fraud
Insurance fraud
Deception in advertising
Abuse of power
Triggering capital flight by oppressive taxation of the wealthy
Service unions
ACORN
The RACE card trumping all other suits
Theft of states' rights by central government
Unelected "Czars" circumventing the Constitution
PotUS bowing to decadent kings and figurehead emperors
Spinmeisters
The nature of our problem with government is that it's totally beyond the control of the people from whom it derives its just powers in the first place. It's become so big and complex that no one can control it because no one is capable of understanding it. When a bill is introduced in the House that is so long and complicated that members would need weeks to read it, the process is no longer manageable. And when the President and House Leader demand a vote on it before its final form has even been determined, the process has become thuggish and laughable, like kindergartners trying to decide whether to play Texas Hold'em or duplicate bridge during recess when they should be outside playing baseball.
The cycle has achieved stable orbit around the Beltway and now derives its energy from the draft of its own passage through Congress. It will repeat itself over and over until the Chinese finally say, "O.K. That's enough. We want our money back."
The tree of liberty needs to be fertilized from time to time with the blood of tyrants, idiots, and seditionists. And something needs to be done with all those tons of unwanted feathers from Tyson Farms. I'm sure the big oil companies have plenty of sludge anytime we need it.
Speaking of the Chinese wanting their money back did you see the SNL video of the press conference between Jug Hussein Ears and the head Chinese dude? If not here it is.
Did Wolf Blitzer fact check this like he did the last SNL skit on JHE? We only owe China $800 billion? Too bad SNL couldn't use the real term, which is "zipless fuck".
Posted by denny at November 24, 2009 03:21 PMAmazing how very little of this skit is funny. At least the Bush bashing was funny. Makes me wonder if SNL is tossing Obama under the bus.
Posted by: Paul on November 24, 2009 03:51 PMBring on the doomsday prophesies of 2012....I can't take any more.
Posted by: joe on November 24, 2009 07:29 PMI almost sent this to you. funny as hell. so glad to see NBC turning on the Chosen one.
Posted by: patrick on November 24, 2009 09:24 PMRon-
That was a great read! There will be lots of business associates receiving this in their inbox tomorrow...
Patrick - it seems that NBC has not turned on the Chosen One and has pulled this video from YouTube citing copyright issues. However you can still find all of the Palin parodies on YouTube along with other SNL parodies. Thus NBC has selectively chosen what they want out in public.

Posted by: Mike on November 25, 2009 01:23 PMBWAHAHAHAH!!! NBC yanked the video. BWAHAHAHAH!!! How predictable.
Posted by: Paul on November 25, 2009 02:41 PMWhat makes this skit unfunny is how unfunny Armisten is. And how unfunny a general Obama impression is.
I mean Bush had his intelligence and Bushisms, and Clinton had his sexual liasons and "slick manner".
Hell, Al Gore was even better to make fun of. See South Park.
Obama? He's really got nothing easy to make fun of. I mean, SNL is making fun of policy issues in spending. That's not an "easy" joke.
Robin - True. I would like to consider the JHE administration a joke, but what he is trying to do to America is serious.
Nothing to make fun of? His reliance on a TelePrompTer and how lost he is without one? The media trying to make this the black version of Camelot? His total lack of competence?
Posted by: Denny on November 27, 2009 11:13 PMThat is one funny video! Here's the link to it on NBC's site, you can't download it though...
