This was from the 1971 album, The Flowers of Evil. It was half live and half studio. The live side got a lot of play.
Right into Roll Over Beethoven.
After Mountain broke up, Leslie West (vocals and lead guitar) and Corky Laing (drummer) teamed up with Jack Bruce (Cream bassist) and toured. I got to see them live. Awesome concert!

Combine Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix and Blue Cheer,
stir and amplify.
Great find.

do not mean to be offensive. but this is strictly pg county md and south coast rock, da, playing, despite where mr west is from.
think lowel george roy buchannan and 4 corners crab restaurant at the intersection of cap hywy and rhode island ave MD. roy and his snakes doing hammer on solos and volume control tele crys without volume pedals turbo drinking PBRs and going to the golden cue pool hall on bladensburg ave after hours to ...ahem use the bathroom and hook up with the local negros in the know. sometimes i wonder why we are all not dead.
funny, roy, he went from tele to gibson and od'ed,or hung hiself in jail if u believe it. in those days i played there with a gibson recorder if u r old enough to remember anything but gibs mainstay which roy recorded his last 2 vinyls with. the recorder reasonably dis conned in the 70's. but even today i play guitars nobody wants an early 90's fender strat with lace sensors, raspberry no less, or for lite occasion a celeb deluxe 98 aniv model. great in the studio or live. sux in person. but i stick with les and roy. no pedals between me and my pump to cause nutting but noise. i plug straight into a vintage twin for electric, or a Yamaha board with all pots straight up for the ovation. if i cannot make the sound it did not deserve to be made. a la west and Buchanan
now do not get me wrong, i am a bunk amateur. but i been in a million bar bands and started watching at 4 corners. ask ec who invented the guitar cry.
...... and of course the late john fahey ..... cut his teeth and is from mount rainer md about 12 minutes from 4 corners. weird damn county.
all sorts of weirdos went to that area to listen and left snatching shit. kinda like brazil. in fact, once i got bumped at the "emergency" on k street by some broad and her bass man named emmy lou harris. is life weird or what.
Thanks, Denny. Sweet guitar music. I know an old dude from London about 65 or so, who swears Mountain jams better than anyone.
Just a thought, Denny, you have a love of great music, have you ever dialed up Gov't Mule? Live at Roseland Ballroom would blow you away. Warren Haynes is one of the best out there today.
Thanks again, keep rocking can't wait til next Sunday.

Posted by: Felonious Monk on December 6, 2009 09:41 AMDid you know Charlie Daniels started out playing Mountain-Leslie West covers? I kid you not...I was there in the day...before he hit it on the southern rock side.
I kid you not.
