Gummint Closes Down

Gummint closes down. No one notices.

I remember way back when, when bad weather hit DC, they used to tell all nonessential gummint workers to stay home. My question always was if they were nonessential why did they have a job? And is gummint worker an oxymoron?

Back in the mid 70's when I worked for the Mattel Office Products Division of IBM, my favorite account was an office of the Defense Contract Auditing Agency. They had one room that had four Selectric typewriters and four women who "used" them. They had a maintenance contract which means that twice I year I would clean them, lube them, check for worn parts, and make any required adjustments. Those were the best maintained typewriters in my territory because they were never used.

I remember one time I was there inspecting the machines and one of the women put down the newspaper she was reading and turned to another lady, who was reading a book, and asked,"Do you want to go on break?"

Break? From what? Doing nothing and getting paid for it? That's like the old joke by George Carlin. What do cats do on their days off? They can't sit around doing nothing all day. That's their job.

I'm just hoping the Republicans win big in November so next year we can have gridlock again. I don't want any bullshit like Johnny McRINO's "reaching across the aisle". I want gridlock. Gridlock is good.

This morning our lovely Maryland Senator Baba Mikulski said she was trying to get federal disaster relief funds to help us dig out. But the law states snow is not considered a weather disaster like a hurricane.

10 mins after her interview, the weather forecaster compared what we've gotten to the AVERAGES the northern/midwestern states get every year. They don't get disaster relief. They know how to handle the kind of snow we're getting. Maybe someone around here could have gotten some tips from our northern friends? Nah...

Thanks Baba. Nice way to make the morons around here think the gummit is gonna help out.

Gridlock is VERY good!

We could use some gridlock in Washington State. Looks like they're gonna raise our taxes. They say that our society cannot have an abundance of public services and low taxes at the same time. Problem is, we are one of the higher taxed states and, trust me, we have no public services. Fucking sickening.

And to add insult to injury, we have 39 counties. Public employees in 38 of our 39 counties earn at least $10,000 more than comparable private sector employees on average. Nice huh?

Can't we just use our weather making machine to keep it in a perpetual state of winter?

Useless govt. workers can't get to work cuz of snow eh?? Then DON"T PAY THEM!!!
I live at 8200 feet in the central Calif.
mountains and we average about 18-20 feet of
snow every year. Two years ago we recieved almost 42 feet!!! No BS.
I managed to get out and about!!
Why can't those losers??

I dont want to gloat(but I do)
Here way up north, it's clear, warmish
and just enough snow for the skidoos...

I've been able to get to work just outside of DC in record time the past two days despite the snow, thanks to no gummint workers and soccer moms being on the road...

Hell, here in the People's Republic of Wisconsin, you get snow - you shovel or plow it. Off the roads, off the sidewalks, off the driveways, off the parking lots. Yeah, it sucks...and it really sucks when you get a lot of it.

But, it's S N O W - it's not toxic waste.

I swear that if today's general population was around back in the 1700's, the Hudson River would be considered the "West Coast" because it'd be "too hard" to go any farther.

I think gummint employees should stay at home during inclement weather. If they're as dumb as Denny says, they DO NOT need to be behind the wheel during bad weather--or any weather for that matter.

Evidently the four women didn't wear a pin that said 'I can type'.

I would love to see snow like this hit New Orleans
1) contains lots of water
2) it is white!!!!!!!
what would Obama do!!!!????

Paul: No shit! I still want to know whether it's legal for them to simply ignore I-960. What's the point of having an initiative process if legislators can disregard it?

Speaking of catastropic weather events:

Everyone is implying with bad jokes that Cajuns aren't smart.

But anybody who would build a city 10 feet below sea level in a Hurricane zone and fill it with Democrats is a damn genius.....!

Since catastrophes seems to be the topic of this thread, how about Haiti.

President Obama has announced that he will honor George W. Bush in the near future.

The Obama Administration will be honoring the 43rd President of the United States by naming the gap between the tectonic plates beneath Haiti after him, the area will now officially be referred to as: "Bush's Fault".

You're right, Peggy. I think I'll write about this on our blog later today. I have pent-up anger.

So the global warming beat Obama to closing down the federal government!

I'll take gridlock right now. I have had enough of all this goverment being jammed into our faces.

Posted by: defshepard on February 11, 2010 06:18 PM

Q. Why is it against the rules for government workers to look out of a window in the morning?

A. Because they would have nothing to do in the afternoons.
